We had more success tonight. I got almost 25 CC into him at dinner time without much fuss as well. He seems to finally get that I am not quitting, and he finally gave up the fight. Not totally, but enough to let me feed him that much food without taking all night to do it. Man he is stubborn. His belly feels full too. I massaged his belly again, and he is running around the floor right now. He is even antagonizing Speedy through the cage screen like he use to before he got sick. I feel so much better and more confident at feeding him. I am sure in a few more days it won't be so traumatic for him.

tunes, I wrapped him like you said tonight, and it worked wonders. He did manage to get one back leg out for a bit, but hubby stuck that back in and we kept on with feeding. :)

If you could get 25 mL into him three times a day that would be great. With a bloat chin, spreading it out a bit over the day is a good thing because then he constantly has something in his gut moving around.

He'll figure out eventually that CC is actually tasty and not the poison he thought it was. :)

Ok tunes, thank you for helping me out. I remember you from the Chins and Quills forum many moons ago. I really appreciate your help.

Wow i just read all 7 pages and isn't it amazing how people on this forum can help out. within 3 weeks there has been 7 pages of posts that for sure saved your chin's life. I'm glad he's doing better!

Yes! And I am so very thankful that I found this forum when I did. I know Taz would not be here right now had it not been for the great people here on this forum. I thank God for them daily.

Just a bit of an update. I go 25 to 30cc's in him this morning. We just did dinner, and got 30cc's in, give or take the dribblings. He has seemed to stop fighting me so much and is starting to eat the Critical Care alot easier. I am hoping this is something he will continue to do. He still hasn't had a bowel movement, and I am really getting concerned about that. How long can they be allowed to go without having a bowel movement?

i am worried about the no pooping............maybe you need the subqu fluids??
are you still massaging his tummy, warm compresses, exercise to get moving?
also how often is he getting the meds to get the gut moving??
are you sure NO poop?? not even 1?

I woke up this morning and checked on Taz first thing before I got his medication and his CC ready. He is now hiding under is flying saucer wheel, so I have to get him out of there to catch him to be able to feed him. He is now barking at me, which is something he never had done before. It is kind of weird to hear him do that.

Anyways, I went to get him this morning to feed him. and he was under his wheel as usual. He ran out from under there and up into his house. So I pulled the pan out just to check again for any signs of poop. I was so happy to see poop!!!! I can't tell you how happy I was to see that pile of poop there. I picked them out and looked at them. None of them are a perfectly formed poop pellet like they should be, but they look like gold to me. All 37 of them. :) Yes, I counted them.

I gave him is meds and fed him this morning, and he ate very well. He ate almost 35cc's before he quit wanting to eat. I am giving him his massages as usual, and the warm compresses. I am hopeful that he continue to be able to get his system back to normal soon.

mishellyshel, the vet told me every twelve hours with his medication to get his gut moving.

That's a good pile of poop! Good for him. Glad to hear he's doing so much better.

Thanks tunes. I know I keep saying this, but I really do appreciate your help and everyone else's here. :)

Thank you saphire. I am glad to know I am not the only crazy lady that counts chinnie poop..lol

yay! that is fantastic. we are a weird bunch here and likely the only ones who get excited about a pile of poop! i am so happy to hear that his gut is moving. you are doing a great job.

Thanks everyone. I am hoping he continues to improve. I do have a question though. How long does it usually take for them to start eating on their own once they get past this part? He still isn't eating any pellets, and maybe a strand of hay here and there.

i think every chin is different........my handfed chin wouldnt touch pellets for 6 months and then one day (after i backed down a little on the handfeeding) he just started eating them again. now he gets a little bit of handfeeding and has been eating a good amount of pellets. still doesnt really eat hay and the only treats he will eat is my herbal mix, a shredded wheat and a goji berry. he wont eat any chin cookies or rosehips or anything really hard.
i would continue to keep pellets in his cage just in case he decides to start and after he is out of the woods you can try backing down on the handfeeding and see if he gets the hint and starts eating pellets.

thanks for the information mshellyshel. I figured it was a fairly long time.

Just an update. Taz is feeling better and is still pooping but not consistenly yet. Some are large, some small, and others are deformed. But he is still popping so I am happy about that. He isn't fighting me near as much when I feed him now. He kinda gets in a zone while I feed him now. It's kinda funny to see him. He puts his head back, and when I put the CC in his mouth, he starts to chew away with his eyes closed. I can't help but smile at him. But it works. He is eating much better. I found that he doesn't like to be level when he eats either. So I hold him on an angle a bit, and he eats much better this way. He is drinking on his own now, but still not eating anything on his own. He is also sleeping on in his house now which he wasn't doing before. He was down in the bedding under his wheel. I am very happy to see him sleeping where he should be. He also is running up and down his ladder now, which again, he wasn't doing until recently. I guess he just didn't have the strength to climb up his ladder to his house.

I am hoping that he started eating something on his own soon.

Sounds like he's getting back to normal again. That's good to hear. It takes time to get an animal completely out of this situation, and the fact that he's doing this well is great. I'd be surprised if he was completely out of the woods yet anyway, so not a lot of poop doesn't surprise me. Just keep going as you are. You're taking great care of him. :)

You are right about that Bostongirl'sChin75. I hadn't realized how much poop was going to become a part of my routine like this..lol

Thanks for the encouragement tunes. I appreciate it. :)
