I have been to chinchilla shows, before I started showing, since 1996. I have known a few of the older ranchers before that. I guess I'm one of those newer older ranchers. Every branch "can" have a rule of Friday night, but the only one that strictly applies to it in ECBC is at the National.....at least that I know of. The only time I've seen a slide to the rule is at the National is when the weather has been bad and planes were changed to other cities.....thus they were late BUT they called and everything was fine. All it took was notifying the President or show chair as this would be a problem beyond their control. The rule is not written in stone and slamming any branch is poor judgment on your part and shows you are a novice. Also not making who or where you are, shows a lack of maturity or pride in yourself. I have seen your name pop up, always slamming something in other threads and starting trouble. Have you not gotten a clue yet?? Tabitha, Cara, Sumiko and Tara (many others I can't remember right now) have always contributed to the forums and do not need the extra hassle on lame subjects or negative topics you bring forth. Could you please contribute positively or ask a relivent question without negativity??

Good job Pam. This person seems to just put down California.

I'm not a big breeder like everyone else in Calif but I do attend the shows and seminar to learn something. My chins will always be pets first then shows. I only had 1 born last year. I showed him and he took a 2nd he was just a baby. I enjoy the shows and the seminars. I don't belong to the chin clubs but I still support them.

No problem!! Danny alerted me to this silliness and I just had to put in my two cents.
Actually, I too breed and sell pets......In the early 90's it was very difficult to get the older ranchers to even let you into their ranch, especially if you sold chinchillas as pets. I made it clear the entire time that I sold pets and wanted to have great quality too and was interested in showing and learning. Everyone since about 2000 has had it easy with most ranchers as they started realizing we weren't all bad or Peta types. Vin and Ellis were my mentors from the beginning and then their was the Baars, Reeds and of course Nuebaurs - from California. Ever since I went to a State Show in Tracy and the next one was the National - I was hooked!! I met all the other big ranchers from across the country and became fast friends. The friendships in this industry will last me my entire life.

Chinman, IF you are from California - how come you have never been to any shows or announced your screen name to anyone at any other shows?? I truely believe you haven't been to any.

It's definitely appreciated since he seems to want to hear from people that have been around since before 2005.

May I ask why there weren't any violet or sapphire winners? Is it because there weren't enough entries?

I also want to say that I think this group is great. I met my first chinchilla up close from a member at a sheep show. She had two chins at a booth of a wool vendor and her chin sat on me for an hour. Best of all she told me where to get real information to make sure a chin was for me. My breeder is also a member and I can only say great things about her. She is a fountain of information and has made herself available 24/7. Now as a chin owner I value all of your experiences because I can learn. Thank you!

It is my guess that the violets and sapphires there placed second or lower and the judges felt they were not worthy, correct me if I am wrong.

It's because none of the violets that were shown that day were in good enough condition to take a 1st place. The class champions are chosen from the animals that take 1st place if any of them are "worthy" of class champion. Hope that helps!:thumbsup:
