    Very Gumpy Chillie

We had a pretty agressive female, and once we separated her from the other females, gave her her own cage and room, she turned into such a sweetie. With all our chinnies, it took awhile for them to get used to people. It seemed to help to put them on a routine - they always get a treat when we...

    Chili the thief!

Glasses are a favorite around here - both Fipsy and Roo have each destroyed a pair to the point of needing replacement.

has your chin ever slept on his/her side?

Mine do it mostly when they are upset (i.e. they've been put back in their cage after playtime) as if to say "look how pathetic I am!"

    Chinchilla cages on wood floors

We are having wood floors installed in our house (used to have carpet). I was wondering if anyone else has chin cages on a wood floor and if so, what you put under their cage to keep their pee from getting on the wood floor finish. The attached pic shows Fipsy in my home office (lower right...

    Cross country road trip

We drove from St.Louis to Yellowstone a year ago september and passed thru everything in South Dakota. Keep in mind that most of the tourist attractions (besides the monuments) are closed during the winter. The roads are scenic there but I wouldn't attempt them in bad weather and especially not...

Turning a closet into my chinchillas home

We let our chins play in our bedroom when they are out of their cages. They have basically destroyed the drywall within a foot of the floor - they like to tear the paper off in shreads. I tacked posterboard up along the walls which helps but they still chew thru the posterboard regularly to get...

    Bunny Maze?

A friend who has a bunny found this and I wondered if anyone has it for their chinchillas? http://www.leithpetwerks.com/prodpage.cfm?prod_code=BH300-1&allpics=1 (there is a photo on the website and I also attached below) My chinnies love the bunny castle that I purchased for them several...

    Hair Ring Check?

I know that it's time to check when he starts humping like crazy (and he's 5 yrs old). My other males never had a problem and I never checked them. I'd catch them in their cages every once in awhile cleaning that area so I assume they did a good job themselves.

    Nicknames for Chin Related items?

We call everything chinchilla related "doodles" for example "how are the doodles?" and "did you order some more doodle food". It all started when I nicknamed on of them Fipsy Doodle....

    Grey's Anatomy - Season 5

I totally agree about the blood samples - came to my mind immediately after they announced the results of the 2 samples. If Izzy is only anemic I'm going to be pissed since they spent over half the season leading up to this "illness" that Izzy has. Now they didn't show them telling the other...

What do you use for bedding?

In regards to yesterdays news - the rumors are true and I always search the bedding well when replacing the litter and almost always pull something out of it - usually pieces of plastic. I use it though because it obsorbs so well that I don't have to clean the cages very often.

    Missouri Exotics Vet.

Legends Animal Hospital 4835 Highway 109 Eureka, MO 63025 (636)938-1336 http://www.legendsvet.com/ Dr. Heist specializes in birds and we've found her quite helpful with the chinchillas as well. She refers to Creve Coeur for major issues though. Can't beat her office hours either...

What do you use for bedding?

I use yesterdays news. Can someone please tell me about the fleece liners? I have seen people use them for heggies but how do they work for chins. How do you make them and how often do you have to change them?
