Do the 10ml ones you guys use clog? Most of the ones I tried would clog which is why I started using the 30ml ones with the large tip. It works well for willing canidates, but with the unwilling it doesn't work half as well.

The 10ml ones I had clogged with some of the bigger chunks that are in Life Line. That's why I switched to 30ml. If I could find a 10ml that would clog I'd go back to using those.

After wiping a lot of CC off one of my chins, I decided to try grinding the CC down using a mortar and pestle. I guess it would be similar to the fine grind CC (not sure if they still sell that). Anyhow, handfeeding goes much smoother when it is finer.

I use 50/50 LL and CC, what I do is mix it up to the consistancy I want and walk away for 15 min, then I mix it again and add more water if needed -the bee pollen is what cloggs the syringe tips and by that time its disolved and no more cloggs.

It took a bit of experimenting for me but I finally figured that out too!

"Sugar" is still holding his own today. Took only 43 cc's of critical care yesterday but is up by 10 gms over his initial weight. At first, I was less than happy with the amount of his poop yesterday until I saw that he is eating it so I believe he is poopiing more than I think. I am happy with the size and consistency. I am back to the vet today to get maintenance drugs for the next couple of weeks.

If he does well today, I may leave my husband in charge of syringe feedings for the day tomorrow and pop over to MCBA Nationals as it is only 3 1/2 hours away.

Hooray Sugar!! Keep it up little dude!

That's brilliant, thanks for the tip Dawn! I'll have to try that next time I need to hand feed.

Reason #09321740931 why I love this forum. Something new to learn every day.

J- looking forward to meeting you at nationals. Any progress on the head tilt?

No change on the head tilt. Back to the vet today for more antibiotics, she says that if he makes it through all of this the head tilt may improve with time, may turn around completely or he may stay this way. In any event we are almost positive he is deaf. Absolutely does not react to sound, my 3 dogs can be barking their crazy heads off next to him and he doesn't even twitch. No way to tell if this was genetic or developed recently as I was dealing with the stasis and the head tilt and balance issues - never even noticed if he reacted to sounds in those first couple of days.

I will probably be coming with Connie, in my 40's, short with short medium/dark hair.

Lynn named him earlier in this thread for me.

I'm so glad that he's doing better!!!

Muhammed Ali, Rocky Marciano, George Foreman, Mike Tyson...all great fighters, but...

I know I'm dating myself, but since he is such a pretty white chinchilla, I think the word "Sugar" should be in his name...that leads me to Sugar Ray Robinson, who once said,

“To be a champ, you have to believe in yourself when nobody else will.”

In the 70s, a young fighter known as Sugar Ray Leonard came on the scene and won a gold medal at the Montreal Olympics. He is considered one of the best fighters of all time. He said,

"They say that I'm stubborn, and my wife says that, too, but it's paid off so far".

Since he's definitely a fighter, I propose "Sugar Ray ________" as a name for OUR little fighter!!!

Give him a kiss from me!!!

He is one blessed little chin to have ya'll for his family! We are all still praying and lifting up support for him and your family. You have truly been an example of a wonderful responsible chin family. No matter what the outcome, you and he have touched many lives.:)

Sorry I did not update yesterday, after giving Sugar his morning meds Connie and I headed up to Nationals and I didn't get home until around 11 pm. couldn't stay for the whole show because I had to be home to give SQ meds...something my husband is still reluctant to do for me.

As far as appetite, activity and pooping...Sugar continues to do well. I have him up to 60 cc's of CC for the most part every day, some days he is a couple of cc's shy.

Unfortunately, yesterday morning his head tilt seemed a little worse and his circles became tighter, faster and smaller - if you picture a chin chasing his tail, this is what he now looks like - he does not need a chin spin as this is what he does on the bottom of his cage and now during playtime, whenevr he is not asleep or resting in someone's arms. Today it does not appear to be any better but we continue with the Baytril SQ for another 10 days trying to beat this nasty ear infection. He lost 4 gms since yesterday so today we are on track for more CC getting into him. I am surprised that he is not exhausted from all of the running in circles.

He continues to sadden yet amaze me and I will continue to give him every chance as long as there is a possibility for some quality to his life.

Maybe Sugar is reminding us that sometimes it is the darkest before the dawn.

Go Go Go Sugar Ray.

I certainly hope so. He has lost 6 more gms since yesterday despite taking in more Critical Care. I think he is expending more calories than he can take in at this point with all of the running in circles. I have cut out his playtime and hope that he does not go back into stasis.
