You migh consider adding Lifeline at this point to the CC, I think he is out of trouble gut wise and the Lifeline is alfalfa based which has more protein and calories and all the other stuff in it. Essentials for Life would also be another good choice to mix with the CC.

Thanks Dawn...I started adding LL to the CC about 3 days ago. He is eating between 60-75 cc's now. He picked up a few gms since yesterday - maybe because he is eating more or maybe because we cut the playtime out. He is much more alert and seems to know when I come into the room now - unfortunately that sets him into his "tail chasing" routine. If I hold him he just rests his head against my chest and is asleep in no time.

What is the difference between Lifeline and Essentials for Life? Is one better than the other?

they are two different products.......sort of. the Essentials for Life is basically an herb based meal replacer to be put in the same class as critical care. my chins prefer the EFL to the CC.
lifeline while also herb based is more herb intensive and can be used as a meal replacer but would not be cost effective. i use lifeline for sick chins in addition to the EFL or for chins that need a boost, have gas, etc.... i have a few that when it is mixed thick will eat it right off the spoon. others turn their nose to it.
for my dental chin, i put the lifeline in the coffee grinder and mix it thinner to fit in the tiny 1 cc syringe and mix it with meds or even gas drops. when crushed it doesnt clog the syringe.
personally, i keep both EFL & lifeline as a staple in my fridge for my chins.

I give all mine a sample of LL daily so its a flavor they all are used to and love, when mixed 50/50 with CC I have had the best result with weight maint. They did not like EFL and I did not push it since the LL works for me. LL is expensive but for me its the least of chinchillas medical expenses when I am hand feeding for some reason.

Just a little update - Sugar Ray is doing great today. He is greeting me at the front of his cage and doing the best he can to maintain his balance. His appetite and poop is awesome! While out for playtime today - he is actually playing, he is running through a PVC tunnel that I have down for him and actually investigating my shoes - this is a first for him. He is still wandering in circles but is no longer chasing his tail non-stop like he has since this past weekend. I am hopeful for him. My white mosaic just had our first litter of the year for us and our black should be littering in the next couple of weeks so I think he knows we will be busy with that so he decided to quit being such a hypochondriac!!! He is truly is a champ!!!

That's WONDERFUL news! I'm really hoping he's able to live a long and relatively normal life with you guys! Congrats on the babies as well! We know you're busy with little Sugar Ray but baby pictures would be nice when you have a chance (hint hint). ;)

There is one picture with my other post on A1 and A2 under babies and breeding - I will take more later - don't want to disturb them too much right now.

Here are a couple of pictures of Sugar Ray enjoying his scritches, notice in the 2nd picture he is almost flipping upside down to get his belly rubbed!!!

I have to say that I have been truly impressed by your care for Sugar Ray! I am so happy he is doing better and congratulations on the new kits.

He's looking so good, congrats! Also, the babies are cute too!

Have been reading through this entire thread and I must say, Juanita, you are one amazing chin owner!!! Quite the example, to me anyway. :clap1::clap1::clap1:

Looking forward to Sugar updates, :)
