Did this Jared give you any more specific information on the breeder? Like where in Ohio they were located, their name or anything? Ohio is one of the states that has a fairly large number of breeders compared to most states.

No I wish, He couldn't remember. At first he thought it was Seward but then he said that wasn't the city. So it sounded like he tried finding a good breeder to buy from when he was getting chins. He lived in Akron and he said he would ask his girlfriend if she remembered but honestly I really don't ever expect to hear from him again...just a feeling. My initial impression about him is that once they were gone no looking back...

I will seriously thanks Juanita.

Maybe I'll start a side hobby and I can become the "Locator aka Troy Dunn" of the chinnie world...LOL I am on a mission to find their long lost relatives lol...Just call me Rhonda chinnie private eye 007 lol....sorry I just had to make a funny here...

By the way with regards to my initial confusion over mom's color...could oxidation be the reason why she looks darker on top which is where I was getting the Brown Velvet idea from in the first place???

It is possible that she has become casty with age but it is also possible that she is more heavily veiled than your other beiges as well. Hard to tell from photos and without seeing the other chins and knowing their ages.

Just ask and ye shall receive...

Just ask and ye shall receive...Both ladies are around 2. In the wheel we have Miss Rapunzel (who loves to give kisses by the way) she was bred by Torgerson. Then on her house sits Miss Yazmina she was bred by Somavia. I got these lovely ladies from CheChinchillas

Because so far I have only gotten around to buying 1 silver surfer which is in the cage with Yazmina, 1 Leo Braun style which is in the cage with the powerhouse couple and 1 flying saucer which is in the cage with the boys so it isn't Rapunzel's turn for an upgrade yet. That wheel is better than no wheel. I just put it in there the other day. She loves it.

Wrong, that wheel can hurt your chinchilla, get it out of the cage. Have you not done just basic research on chinchillas? If you had you would know that is a unsafe wheel.

I am not going to mention any names and drag an innocent person into this one and I refuse to mention who it was but I have seen a reputable breeder with these in their cages. They may not be the best and this may not be the popular opinion on here but I have 3 of these for now and I will say that I do intend to upgrade but I have had no problems using these.

You have had chins for what, a couple of months? And now you are the expert on all things chin. Really? You cruise hoobly and CL for chins, don't know colors, use unsafe wheel, want to breed chins who you have no idea of the background, for someone who wants to "do it right" you are not even close. Why not just listen and use your own brain to find out that these wheels are unsafe, who cares what someone else does-heck a well known rancher amputated legs with a tin snips, so since they did it its right huh?

From what I know, most breeders don't use wheels with their breeding herd. That wheel is not safe. I get those with rescues and chuck them all the time. Better no wheel than that wheel.

As well, even though I am on the rescue side of things and not a breeder, why would you not just buy a pedigreed chin with the qualities of the rescue you have. It seems like such a risk to your herd if those chins have malo or other issues in their lines.

LOL Love ya Dawn...And I intend to stay here too....Don't sweat the small stuff see what you are neglecting to include is that 1. I never claimed to be an expert 2. Heeelooo what about the couple grand I have spent buying directly from some of the most respected breeders around and 3. You are freaking out over what..a wheel...come on you gotta do better than that and 4. I guess people are supposed to be perfect in your world and they aren't allowed to be human and make a mistake 5. You are most definitely ignoring the fact that the sheer reason I am here is to try and learn from my mistakes which was exactly what I was doing with the color thing right up till you went all ape over a wheel.
And when you try do analyze my actions at least get it right and tell the WHOLE story not just your interpretations of bits and pieces of what I do!

Well when your chins breaks a leg, gets a head injury from the cross bars or a back injury from running on that wheel at that angle, then maybe you will actually learn. To me, if I was told something was unsafe and why it would be gone from the cage, period. Your attitude is really amazing. You claim to be here to learn, you are told a wheel is unsafe, you are told not to breed chins from unknown backgrounds because of genetic issues that can be present and not expressed, you claim to have all these great chins from all these great places yet insist you want to breed this rescue chin when you obviously know how to buy chins from the correct places, so what about ignoring that info is learning.

Please see Essentia's response to why that wheel is not safe. I did a simple search using the search button to find that thread.

Dawn is not flipping out over a wheel. She is simply pointing out that the wheel you currently have is not safe. It's better to not have a wheel that to have a dangerous wheel. I also once owned a similar wheel and tossed it once I listened to experienced owners and did the research.

I could say the same thing about your attitude as well Dawn! Smoking is unsafe too but I do it anyway cause I like it. It is called life and being human. Sorry that you have such unrealistic expectations about people conforming 110% to your chin philosophy. People are just like chins they are all different and guess what it is ok to be different...That is what makes this world so much fun. I hope for your sake you learn to accept diversity a little bit better then maybe you can quit sweating the small stuff. You might end up making more friends as a result...never know till you try :)

I learn to take care of my animals to the best of my ability, they are in my care and its up to me to make sure they are healthy and safe. Unlike you I actually want them to live to a ripe old age with all their legs intact. Good luck with that crappy attitude towards your animals you are going to need it, and get your self a good set of tin snips too.

Ehhh...I don't like any wheels....

I did have a wheel that had the same design...it was larger and "chinchilla safe" with a solid bottom. I had it in 2000. The problem is that the cross member and the axle of the wheel have a bit of a scissor action and the chin can end up getting a leg or even their necks caught between them. What happened with mine is the chin got it's head caught in the wheel and another chin ran on the wheel and he ended up breaking his neck. It was a much larger wheel...so he was hanging dead on the wheel when I found him.

It would be best to remove that wheel...just in case something could happen. I would love to spare anyone from coming down in the morning and finding what I found with that poor little chin dying. There are probably other problems with the wheel that are different from what I mentioned...maybe it's too small or something else.

Not saying that to be mean or say that I am right or anything like that...you need to know the risks so that you can learn from the mistakes of others. :)
