So sorry for your losses Courtney. I know it is extremely heart breaking but I am glad that seems to have had a peaceful passing.

    Chocolate vs Brown

I am absolutely horrible at colours but I have found this reference very helpful. Take a look through and see if by process of elimination you can determine which closest represents your hog. http://www.hedgehogcentral.com/colour.shtml Hope this helps.

    Sawdust making my hedgehog sneezy!

CareFresh may be linked to impaction, I know we had a hedgie pass that had came to us with an impaction and had been kept on care fresh by the SPCA. It was the only thing we thought could have caused it. Unfortunately we did not get a necropsy, so we cannot be sure. But I believe there have...

    Kitty litter stuck

Switch to paper towels. If he has gotten litter stuck once, it will happen again. Paper towels will probably be a better choice. How is the penile area now? Any sign of redness or swelling of any kind?

Call for Entries for 2012 CnH Hedgehog Calendar Contest: Deadline extended to 10/28

Thank you! We were taking pictures and had a big set back. Greyson felt a little too stressed out and began chewing on himself. I feel really bad, I should have paid better attention to see how he was taking it though he has had "photo shoots" before and had no problem. I will try for some...

    Hello! New here!

Welcome to the group! A hedgie who didn't have ears...that sounds like something we can all learn from. Perhaps you'll post something about that in the Hedgehog Chat section?

    fleas?

Fleas like warm, dark areas of the body. They are also generally visible to the naked eye. Keep your cats isolated from the hedgies and keep an eye on your hogs (checking their bellies). Generally you shouldn't need to treat the hogs if you are treating the cats and are keeping them separate...

    Really skittish new hedgie!

Treats in the first few weeks are usually not a good idea (too soon to bug their tummies). Try again in a few weeks, after he is fully settled in. Sometimes it takes several tries before they'll enjoy mealies. Try first giving them to him in a separate bowl in his cage so perhaps he can brave...

    Squeaking?

Hmm, I've had some who are squeaky and others that aren't but usually it is their whole lifespan. If there'd are other symptoms, then it may suggest pain. If not, probably no need to panic but that is just my opinion. Strange that she skips eating some nights, maybe because she is sleeping...

In need of loosing a few

Check the fat content on the food you are feeding. If you can find another high quality cat food with a lower fat percentage, you may consider mixing it in. A little less kibble and more steamed veggies and unseasoned cooked chicken (to keep him still satisfied and feeling full) also helps a...

    glucosamine/chondroitin

I've heard of the above as being used as a homeopathic treatment for arthritis in hedgehogs, but am not sure about how to dose this. Does anyone have suggestions? Huffy is already on prednisone for what we believe are cancerous lumps growing in his abdominal region which have been holding out...

Diet for a recovering lower broken jaw

She is doing absolutely wonderful. She has a very outgoing personality and a good appetite (though I feed her soaked crunchies only along with the usual supplements - chicken, salmon, carrots). I'll post a pic soon. Her skin is stabilizing quite a bit now, quills aren't falling out in chunks...
