What is your chins favorite kind of wood?

Anything fresh and not overly processed (scrubbing and light baking with no boiling as well as no store bought stuff) and a good bark layer. They pretty much only chew the bark off and ignore the wood after that. Kiwi and grape vine are destroyed when they get bored but lack bark so they might...

How long will food stay fresh?

It helps to dump the food out of the bags and in to a plastic container that will seal properly. Sometimes it's even a good idea to have 2 plastic containers. One will hold majority of the food and the other to hold maybe a week's worth. That way you don't open the main container as often and...

    Flea question

I cannot find what camber is. Do you have a link to the product? It would be best to go through a vet for flea meds so they can dilute the medicine and give you a proper dosage. Guessing at the dosage can kill the animal. I had one moronic vet tell me you can't overdose advantage just drip...

    Ferret Nation Sale - $105

Ferret.com still has them but their sale has ended so they are a bit expensive right now. They have sales off and on if you keep watching. We got 2 of ours during different sales for about the same price as the petsmart sale when shipping was taken in to account.

    Keeping Trust

They are pretty forgiving so long as you keep having positive interaction with them. Hachiro was on 3 meds. 1 topical and 2 oral. She started biting us on day 3 of 10. Finished the meds and a week later she was the same as ever.

    Is this Hidey House Safe?

All our houses are put together with nails. I don't really see the concern. The chins are smart enough not to try to chew nail and even if they did it would be no different than bar chewing. By the time they get close to the point of the nail it can be pulled or the house needs replaced anyway.

    Is this Hidey House Safe?

It says in the item specifics it is natural wood so I would think it's safe. Not sure what wood it is but it's unlikely they'd hunt down something toxic to build it out of.

What to or not to have in Chinchilla's cage

Most pellets have salt so a salt wheel can OD them. You pretty much want fleece and wood. Hammocks, tunnels, shelves, ledges, chewy sticks/blocks/coins... Mine don't really like overly processed wood beads and cubes. The bark is their favorite part. There are a few other safe materials like...

    Teeth been filed, next step?

If you have an experienced exotics vet using the latest sedative gas it should be safe. My vet sedates my hedgehogs and chins for even routine exams and they are up and back to normal within minutes. The hedgehogs are especially difficult to check out and even more so to treat without...

Excited new chin owner, few questions

Eating small amounts should not cause a problem. It's no different than the ones who chew on a bit of cardboard and lots of people use cardboard for things. Usually animals give up eating the paper bedding after a few days. Fleece is greatly preferred though. You don't have to sew or...

    Fleas?

A flea infestation is a nasty thing. Our old ranch house in town had a horrible flea problem. We did have 2-3 cats and a dog at any given time and it was before topical flea treatments when all you had were flea collars, chemical sprays, and medicated shampoo. Even after we finally got rid of...

    Fleas?

You may have just picked them up in the yard. Fleas can survive outside especially if you have a lot of wild animals. That's how many pets get them in the first place to then infest the house. Often the house and yard have to be treated as well as the animals to get rid of the fleas.

    Be mine?

Poor Rocco  I have one that might sit for that but she has a tendency to try to eat everything including nonedibles.

Excited new chin owner, few questions

The bedding is fine. I find the other brands besides carefresh to be rather dusty though. It's also a clumpy, heavy dust and it's caused some of my animals to get runny noses from irritation. The water problem may just be he didn't know how to find the bottle with it outside the cage. It's...

    Dog Safe Birthday Cake?

Technically if it doesn't contain chocolate, macademia nuts, etc.. it's dog safe. Now healthy is another matter.

    FN 182 slowly discontinued?

Never heard of it. We do have petco and petsmart here but they have minimal large cages. Maybe a pop together wire and plastic ferret cage and the odd large aviary. We have one petland and they've even quit selling large birds and aviaries. All they have are single story guinea pig/rabbit...

    FN 182 slowly discontinued?

I've never seen FN or CN in any pet stores.

    HELP!

We have ours dust bath in the bathroom while cleaning cages so we have to catch each one twice. The odd fur slip is no big deal and even when they've been hyper and hard to catch they are just as friendly once back in their cages.

Rescued a Chin that looks terrible.

Could also be strep zooepidemicus. We dealt with that in guinea pigs. It mimics strep equine which is strangles in horses and causes infected lumps under the chin and base of the neck. Doesn't drain well so best removed surgically as an encapsulated abscess. You'd have to get a vet to check...

    My first chin

Most chins don't like to be held but they are pretty forgiving of handling. They may complain and they may dodge away from you but usually they still come looking for treats and attention. He's just talking with you that he wants to be around you but doesn't want caught. There are rosehips...
