So with the holidays coming up, I got to thinking, what is the worst gift you ever got?

My worst was from an old boyfriend, two years in a row he got me for Valentine ’s Day 3 giant boxes of Nerds Candy. It was more Nerds then I could possibly ever consume. Then for Christmas one year, he knew I needed a jacket so he got me one... from the men's clearance rack at Target. It wasn't the money aspect that was bad, it was the fact that I am 5'2 and no men's jacket is going to fit me!

I have a few but only 2 that were really just what the heck gifts.

1) On Valentine ’s Day my Sophomore year of high school, I had a long term boyfriend of a year. I slaved away all day the day before making him over 4 dozen cookies. I was so proud of them and I wrapped them all individually and put them in a bag, and I made my own card for him. I get to school and I hand him the bag and he thanked me and handed me a card. It had 2 Hershey’s kisses glued to the top out of the wrapper, therefore making them no edible, and my name which was spelled very wrong. I went to my class and opened the card. He had a little thing written in there saying "Love is a lot like pissing your pants, everyone can see it, but only you can feel its warmth." He didn't sign his name or anything. I was so upset and didn’t talk to him for the rest of the day. 3 months later I go to his house, and he is still eating the cookies I had made him.

2) The Christmas after I turned 18 I got a gift from my uncle. It was very odd because I have never received a gift from him and only him. I reluctantly opened it and to my horror he had bought me around 20 skimpy thongs. Everyone laughed and I turned beet red. Little did I know, my uncle had bought my only female cousin and my mother thongs when they turned 18. I was so embarrassed but got a good chuckle out of it. Too bad the next female to turn 18 in the family is his daughter, and she is only 10 months old.... I'm waiting to see if he has anything in store for a 20 year old gift...

My dad's brother's family always regifts. It's not so obvious with the adults, but when I was little, it was pretty bad.

1) One year I asked for a Swatch (brand) watch. They got me a watch that taught you how to tell time. I was 13 YEARS OLD!

2) Another year I got a bright orange sleeping bag. And no one in my family ever goes camping or does anything that doesn't involve running water and indoor plumbing. Yeah....

One of my exes gave me his old CD walkman thing because I said I wanted an MP3 player. "But this plays MP3 cds!"

The kicker: After I unwrapped this used gift, he had the nerve to say, "Well, since you have mine, can I have yours?"

I was 8 months pregnant with twins, and had a 2-1/2-year-old daughter. My exmoron asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and I said a guitar. I used to play guitar, and was hoping that some of it would come back to me. Plus, it was portable so I could sit in the yard with the bebbies and entertain them.

I was having an extremely bad day, flu with twins is not a treat, when up rolls his truck to the front door. ???? Mark and his brother came rolling in with a piano. Huh? WHY are you bringing in a piano. "Well I figured since you're going to have tons of time on your hands after the twins are born, and since I really like listening to the piano, I figured you could take lessons again and start playing."

That boy was almost a blood splatter on the wall. I hated every minute of piano lessons when I was in school, but he figured since HE liked it, I would learn to love it. <not> His brother couldn't figure out why I was such an ungrateful beotch and didn't fall all over myself thanking him for something he knew I would hate, but bought anyway.

Other than that, can't think of any.

Ohhh...my......gosh Peggy! The part that got me in your story was "since you'll have so much time on your hands after the twins are born" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I now see why you call him the ex moron! lol

Uhm...the worse gift I ever got was a book from my mom about the "top 100 most fascinating things to happen in the last 100 years" for my sweet 16...Hmm...I guess it was a useful gift. I used it to keep my chinchilla cages even for a while because the floor in our house needed a floor jack under it, so i had a part that dropped, and the cage would rock...LOL!

I'm pretty sure I got enough trees planted in Israel in my honor as Bat Mitzvah presents to qualify as a small forest.

Well the one gift I always remember was a "wonderful thoughtful"(much sarcasm here) LONDON BROIL yeah thats right it was from my ex-moron for our anniversary he asked me what I wanted and I said a steak dinner. I meant that I wanted to go out to eat not cook one myself. IT was raw and still in the package and that is the way he got it on his plate I cut the meat and wrapper together and plopped them on his plate with a grin. I went out for MY steak dinner without him. He still wonders why that made me so angry.

Ok, mine has got to be from my dad. Christmas before I turned 15, I was living with my aunt and uncle on a farm. I needed new clothes because a) I was growing out of everything and b) everything was getting ruined. So, I figured, "I'll ask Dad for money so I can buy clothes for Christmas" (he was in Kosovo at the time with the Nat. Guard). So what's he do? He sends me ONE shirt, that doesn't fit, has some language all over it that I don't understand, and just happens to be dry clean only. Yup, that ended up in the trash...

Mine was from my Grandma.... Who I do not have the best relationship with.
Last Christmas she got everyone in my family - Mom, Dad, and two brothers Visa gift certificates. But for me she got me coffee certificates for Starbucks. She said it was because I was in University and could probably use the coffee. I mean, I love coffee don't get me wrong, but I really don't need $200+ in gift certificates for a coffee shop I go to maybe once a month. I just don't understand why she couldn't just get me a Visa gift certificate like everyone else. We later deduced she did that because I did not see her the last time she visited since I was busy studying that night (by the way this dropping by is a rarity, we only see this lady once a year for Christmas even though she lives all of 15 minutes away.... long story).
So I ended up selling the cards to my mom who gave me cash to buy what I will because honestly as a University student there is a million other things I could spend that $200 on rather than coffee which I can make at home.

Ahhh, family drama.

OOh, I love this thread!
My worst gift was a Valentines Day gift.
I spent MONTHS making 100 of those little tiny origami stars for my ex and wrote a reason why I loved him in each star, and put those in a jar. I bought a nice card and printed the list of reasons out and put it in the card so he wouldn't open up the origami stars i painstakingly folded.
What did I get? One of those cheapo v-day prepackaged mug, candle, etc. from hallmark.
I also spent that V-day at a Car show (how awesome of a girlfriend am i?)

Couple years later I got a text from him saying he found the card with the list in it and was remembering how wonderful everything used to be - i told him to burn it!

My great grandmother was always known to give interesting gifts. She really meant well, and never forgot to give anyone a gift. (even my mother after she split with my father and the rest of the family would not talk to her)

We still get a chuckle about the time she gave me the most giant pair of panties I have ever seen as a christmas present. Now, my last birthday, my mom bought me a pair of size 10 CHILDRENS pants because a size zero is too big on me.

A few years ago I was working as a home health nurse aid. It was my birthday I was supposed to be off, but my boss called to see if I could fill in a quick shift. This elderly lady was expected to die soon but her regular cna was sick so I did the shift. Well half of it anyway, she passed soon after I got there. My first time for that. Then after work everyone's supposed to meet at my mom's. Husband, Mom, Young Son, they knew it was my Birthday...but no card, cake gift...nothing! I still don't understand, we always celebrate. We look hard for reasons to celebrate LOL. Well, not that day. Husband and Mom both simply said sorry, we've been busy.

Oh I forgot one! My grandma always gets odd gifts from the relatives, but she always takes them and says oh thank you...and then asks my dad to return them (without telling the respective relative, of course). Well, usually the gifts are like some pant-suit (you know, like the 80-yr-olds wear) or some blouse or something... well one year, it was a package of size-7 underwear. White granny-panties, yup. Now, I wear size 7 (in Hanes, mind you), but this brand... like I could have fit 2-3 people in these size-7 panties...and my grandma, who is smaller than me, tried them on and they were huge.

So I guess my grandma asked my dad and he was like "yeah I think she (me) wears size 7." So as a gift, I got this 5 pair package of size-7 (apparently elephant size 7) granny-panties. Straight from grannie. LMAO...:hilarious:

I've never recieved underwear for a holiday but I was given the ingriedents to one of my favoite meals (coq au vin) to make for my ex on V-day. I took the bottle of red wine and shut the door. All in all not a bad night.

I would have to say the pink jogging suit I got from my grandpa two years ago. Firstly, I HATE pink. I have since I was 3, can't stand it. Used to lie on the floor and scream if my mom tried to make me wear it. (Now I just lie on the floor but keep the screaming to a pouty face.) Secondly it was a size 20! I'm not dainty in any way but I'm not a 20. Thirdly i found out he told my dad it was becuase I'd alway been the sweet blonde girl who was just a bit hefty and with a nice "cute" jogging suite I could fix that. AAAarg!

This is a true story. My ex-mother-in-law one year got all us daughter-in-laws brooms for Christmas. They were those cheap corn bristle brooms that don't pick up anything smaller than a rock. Why would you buys someone a broom for Christmas? And my ex-husband had the nerve to say "Now she has something to ride home on". :hilarious:

A Christmas gift from one of my brother-n-laws he gave us a gift for me and my husband. I let me husband opened it. It was one t-shirt. I told my husband you wear it, I get the lovely job of washing, drying & folding it.

We got married in late September. Our 1st Christmas 3/4 of his siblings only gave him a gift and the other 1/4 gave us a gift for both. He's from a family of 15. We both were the 1st ones to get married in our families. His excuse was they forgot we were married. I hate Christmas with the in-laws so I try to stay away from them.

..."Well I figured since you're going to have tons of time on your hands after the twins are born...
I don't know much about kid, but surely "twins" and "time on your hands" doesn't mix well in my head.

The worst gift might have been from my ex-father in law (well more his ex-second-wife chose it). The first christmas (I was 16) they gave me an awfull 3$ make up bag. Until I was like 20, I NEVER wore any make up. I ended up using it as a tampon bag.

There are also gift from my ex's grandma. She would have me a puke green table cloth, ugly and cheap salt and pepper container. I think in 9 years I only had 3 great gift from her: a nice snowman blanket, a snowman plush (was on the list I gave to my mother in law) and money (the year she decided to give only money)

I get the same thing every year from my grandma. She gives us these tins of cookies. She makes them homemade, but they are NOT good. It never fails that we get it every year... I guess it's the thought that counts, but at least make edible cookies.

One year, my step-mother gave me lingerie for Christmas! I was 13! They were too big first of all, considering I can wear it now, but they were lacy down the front... Hello, can we say gross?
