Why does nobody recommend glass?

I hear all sorts of cage ideas that include wood or tile or granite and the pros and cons of hard plastics...basically I've never heard anybody recommend glass for litter pans or hop up or in toys or cool things for them to lay on when they want...now that i have fleece in the playpen i'm going to get her a glass baking dish for her litter box area thing and i might even flip some over for her to hop on and play on...my basic tenet is if i have things that i can readily take out of her playpen and clean then i can keep her area a bit cleaner...so anybody have any reason that glass would be bad for a cage or play area?

I use glass dishes for litter pans.

Personally, I'd use boxes for her to play in and on instead of more glass dishes. You might confuse her into thinking her litter box is a toy as well.

I use glass for my litter dishes as well. A couple of 7 x 7 square pressed glass dishes. Chose them for size and weight. Love them for ease of cleaning. I also use glass for dust baths. Lots of members use big glass canisters or glass bowls for their chins to dust in.

Playing on is another story. Glass can be very slippery, though mine like to hop up on the jar after dusting. Besides, it's not chewy and my chins like to chew on everything they play with. Even me!

I agree with you on using glass as a chiller. I've noticed the coolness of glass and it's not much more durable than marble if you drop it. I may look into that. A nice glass cutting board maybe....

One thing to keep in mind if you outfit her cage with glass. Vibration is the enemy of glass. And I've noticed that my chins like to redecorate as well. All your glass accessories should be on the bottom so they don't push it off a shelf and break it. The more breakable things you have in the cage, the higher the chance something may break while you're not there. Don't fool yourself into thinking something is too heavy for your chin to move. They have ways of proving their strength when you least expect it.

I don't keep a lot of stuff in her cage period...most of her toys are in her playpen...her food and hay are on the top shelf...her chew blocks are on the next shelf down...and in the bottom of her cage is her water bottle and her little hut...she likes to sleep on the shelves in her cage...i tend to reserve her cage for sleeping, eating, pooping and chewing...the basic essentials...and then i use her playpen for all of her toys and chillers and chewing things...the only reason the chewing blocks are in the cage is because they have to hang from something
