Lol Brittany! You won't be imposing at all. My apartment is ran by 8 chins. I'm just allowed to live with them. What's 1 more. :)) I would be happy to help.

Oh, go ahead and IMPOSE! She pawned 3 rescues off on me last month. Just kidding, I totally volunteered to foster them ;) Seriously though, I've been to her place, and she really knows what she's doing.

If the vets/techs didn't tell you keep an eye on Misty's droppings. You'll need to feed her enough so that her stomach doesn't go into stasis (stop's moving) that's another painful and dangerous ordeal. She's come this far I'm rooting for her to make a full recovery!!

That's my main concern with her now, she hasn't pooped all day. I've gotten about 32 ml into her so far today, and I've seen her nibble on some hay a few times. I wish I could get her moving around a little, since that's what works well for humans after surgery! All she does is sleep, so I tried to get her to hop around a little after her last feeding.

My 4 year old son got a stomach bug last summer and ended up with an ileus, which is probably the human equivalent of stasis. It was horrible, his belly was distended and he was screaming in pain. Had to rush him to the ER, doctor told us it was a complication in about 1% of the population. I think Misty's odds of getting this uterine infection were probably the same!

I sure hope after all she's been through that she makes it. If she dies now it's going to be even harder on all of us. The only nice thing that has come from this is she lets me pick her up, she doesn't fight me. I'm not sure if that's because she's in so much pain or if she's just getting used to people messing with her. I have to admit I am enjoying her cuddling up to me while I feed her, even if it's just because I've got her wrapped in a towel! Reminds me of feeding my babies, and since my youngest is 2 1/2, I haven't done that for a while!

Oh, I put her new CN cage together today!!! It is HUGE next to her old cage. I can't wait to move her into it when she's better!!!

Here's a great thread on how to treat stasis (hope it doesn't get that bad for you, but I like to be prepared) http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6553 If she's not eating a substantial amount you'll need to be force feeding even more. When I'm feeding a sick chin I try to get 90-120ml per day broken up in segments of 10-20ml per feeding (less if it's stomach issues). Good luck with your baby.

Edit: sometimes my chins don't poop during the day, or they eat all the droppings so I just don't see them. Hopefully you'll find some poop tonight.

Woo hoo, just found one poop in the towel when I unwrapped her to put her back after a feeding!! I know it's not enough, but hopefully it's a start of things getting back to normal.

Attaching some pics, one of me syringe feeding, close-up of Misty, one of her huddled in her cage, a pic of her new cage (yay!!) and one from happier times, me and the kids the day we brought her home!

Thanks Brittany for the link, already went through and read it. I hope it doesn't come to all that with her, but appreciate the info if it does. Oh, and just got our total of the day up to 41 ml!!

Woo Hoo! Go Misty! You're getting a crash course on the harder part of being a chin parent. I promise, it's not always this tough. Hope she keeps thriving!

It looks like you may have Misty on shavings. When I had a chin go into stasis I found it easier to go out and buy some fleece to line the bottom of the cage - it is much easier to track how much she is pooping as you will be surprised how many of those little chocolate tic tacs get lost in pine bedding! :)

I didn't sew it or anything - just folded it over double and shook it out about 3 times a day just so I could gauge how much mine was pooping in 8 hour increments. I bought enough to have several changes. Just an idea.

It's actually carefresh, but I'm planning on changing to fleece liners when she moves into her new cage. A friend of mine is going to make them for me, since sewing is NOT one of my talents! I could try to get out and buy some fleece tomorrow though, just to make do until then. It would probably help me keep track of her peeing, too. I have seen her go pee a couple of time today, so hopefully she isn't dehydrated

Thanks for the tip!

Sorry I haven't updated sooner, but I have been at the vet's office all morning.

Misty was in GI stasis. The vet said she could keep her there and try treating her for a couple of days, but she still had a vaginal infection and she wasn't sure if she could completely cure it, and she said she only had a 50% chance of surviving the stasis. She was so obviously suffering so much that I made the very hard decision to let her go.

The kids are heartbroken, but no one is more upset than me. I cried all the way home. I can't believe she's gone. I just couldn't watch her suffer anymore. I knew last night that she was very, very sick and when I got up this morning I could tell she was in a lot of pain.

Dr. Lennox said we did a great job with her, and that we made the right decision, but I still feel terrible. I am going to miss my little Misty.

Oh Lisa, I am so sorry. I hope you can take comfort in the fact that Misty is no longer in pain. You did your best for Misty and she knows that she was loved very much by you and your family.

Big HUGS to you, and we are here if you need to talk.

Rest in Peace Misty.

Awwww....I am sooo sorry for your loss!!! I have been following this thread & I'm so sorry that Misty's journey ended this way. You seem like you are an AWESOME chin parent & I'm sooo sorry that you had to go through all of this. I hope that in time your family will decide to adopt another chin because they really are awesome animals! I hope your hearts heal quickly!!

Awww Lisa...that just stinks! I am so sorry. I hope once you and your family heal you can find it in your heart to allow another chin in. rest in peace sweet misty.

I am so so sorry to hear about Misty. I really thought her story was going to have a happy ending! Know that you did the best you could for her. RIP little girl. :(

I'm so sorry for you and your kids. RIP sweet Misty, I hope you can find some peace in knowing you did everything you could for her.

Lisa, sometimes making the loving decision to end an animals suffering is SO hard. I know saying this doesn't bring Misty back, but you did do the right thing. Hugs to you!

Thanks so much to everyone for the support and caring. It means more than you all know to read these messages, even though I cry with every one.

We buried our little girl an hour ago, and all of us were standing in the yard crying. I think I even saw my husband wiping his eyes, although he was trying to hide it. She's in a nice spot in the front yard under some trees, and I promised the kids we would buy a special plant to put there to remember her always.

I know I did everything I could, but it breaks my heart that she died so young. I don't think she was even a year old, in fact we think she hadn't reached her full size yet. It also kills me that she suffered at the end, and I would have done anything to prevent that. She was a special member of our family, and we will never forget her. We Love you, Misty girl :)

Just wanted to give another quick update. I talked to Petsmart today, since our vet thinks Misty probably came to us with the vaginosis that caused the uterine infection. They asked me to have her records faxed so they can review them to see if they can get us at least a partial refund. he said he should know something within the next couple of days. I will let you all know what I hear, since someone else could go through this someday, although I sure hope not.

Also, on a much, much brighter note, my family is adopting Stacie and Brittany's rescue chins!! Just knowing they will be here soon for us to spoil is helping us get through this. No one could ever replace Misty, and we're not trying to, but I can't imagine not having more chins. They are the best pets I've ever had, and I've owned just about every typical pet you can have!

We are so excited and working on getting our Critter Nation ready for this little mommy and her 2 baby girls. Stacie and Brittany are bringing them to our house on the 19th, so expect lots of photos and updates then!! And questions, ha ha!

Thanks again for all the support!
