I'm not sure how many people saw the thread about 4 chins needing a home in Green Bay, but I offered to take the chins in to rehome. So tonight I got two of them.

Long story short, they were in two pairs. The one pair is a malo chin and his buddy. After finding out about the malo, I was not comfortable with that responsibility (whether he needed hand feeding eventually or to be PTS) and talked with her about it. So I guess that pair is going to Krys in Rice Lake.

So here I am with 2 boys! I'm going to double check the sexes tomorrow. There's a violet and a hetero beige. Violet is Hammie, and the Beige I'm calling Gus. I believe that Hammie is going to live with Ashley (Easterpiggy) over in the Twin Cities. So Gus still needs a home!

It's the typical owner who didn't do a whole lot of research. They were in a large superpet type home (there's a picture of it), tons of plastic, are eating Kaytee food, and love their raisins!

The sad story about these two is that Gus beat up Hammie as you can see in the pics. He has lost quite a bit of fur and has some scabbing. The fur is regrowing right now and he was on antibiotics for a while I guess. They did not separate Hammie and Gus because they did not want to buy another cage. So now Hammie is happily hopping about the cage by himself! They laughed and said that he must be thrilled because Gus would never let him get off of the cage bottom, or else he would attack.

On to pictures!

The SuperPet cage. Wood ledges and hammock are courteous of myself. Hammie is currently in this cage but he will be rehomed soon!

And then Gus!

So anyways.. Hammie seems rather outgoing and friendly. A little scared but that's to be expected. I think Gus is a little overwhelmed right now but he seems like a nice guy as well. Just didn't want a friend is all. He didn't kack at me or anything while taking his pics, just is a little scared.

I will have to post some better pics once they're settled in. And then someone needs to adopt Gus! ...anyone want a beige chin??

Poor Chins!!! If Gus could live with another Chins I would take him, but it appears he can't. Did they chew on the plastic in the superpet cage?? Because I have my male, Boo in a big huge superpet....he doesn't chew at ALL on any of the plastic.

Yeah, well he obviously didn't get along with Hammie, so I don't know that I'd put him with another chin. Of course some chins just don't like certain other chins, so he may some day like another chin, but I won't be responsible for recommending trying. Some of my girls don't get along with a certain other one but they get along with the one they're living with now. But yeah, I won't recommend trying.

There's some bite marks on the plastic, but it appears in okay shape.

yeah, but singletons are fun too! My Chibi lives by herself and she's the best!

I'm sure he'll find a loving home though! Not everyone wants two chins :))

You with boys?!?! Oh boy oh boy Allison, heehee just kiddin ;)
Thank you for taking them in, that's so sad what they've all been through, I sure do hope they find their forever homes.

Haha oh I know! Boys in my home, it's a shock! They're no where near the girls though so my divas can live in peace not knowing about the boys who've invaded their territory!

I actually did have one boy chin a different time. I named him Chance as he was surrendered to the local PetCo (at the time I was living up in Superior WI) and my boss knew I had chins so she told me about him and I went and got him. I think he lived with me for maybe a month? Probably less.. He went to a new home with one of Deb's friends. He was renamed though, but I can't think of what it is.

But I think it's a good thing that I keep getting boys to rehome as I would get attached to a girl and I cannot have any more.

I don't plan on doing any hair ring checks just yet, I don't want to stress them out too much. A new home, being separated and put in a new cage, and transitioning them to new feed, I just feel it'd be a lot right now.

I am going to double check the sex tomorrow though. Just a quick flip and that's it.

If they're both here for longer I will check them. But having girls, and never having done one before, it'd probably be best for me to let them settle in for a bit before I would traumatize them like that. I know they've never had that done before.

Hammie, the violet I belive has a home. At least someone has said they want him, and if so, he'd be going to their home next Friday :))

Gus the beige I have no idea about, I figure I'll let him settle in a bit and then I'll let him out to get to know his personality so I can let people know how he is.

I'll probably make a thread in the rescue section for him in a couple days though as next weekend I'm driving to the Twin Cities and could deliver him on the way..

So.. if anyone reading this wants a beige chin and lives in northwest WI like Steven's Point, Wausau, Chippewa Falls, River Falls and then the Twin Cities area of MN... I'll be there next weekend and can deliver! :D

You may want to give them a little longer before they go to a new home. I like to keep my rescues here for a month so that I can watch them and make certain that they do not have any health problems...then again, I keep them here if they do have health problems - I don't know if you have the space for that. :) I'm convinced that in 28 days or so I will be able to notice any contagious disease or other conditions that would be a problem for a new owner. (It's just what I do, other people do things differently...I know that.)

Also, a little longer would give them time to relax. They look like they've had a fairly difficult life. Maybe give them a little more time to heal before they have to go to a new place.

Anyway, anyone you rehome them to right away needs to consider them hands off while they heal up. These chins may end up requiring a lot of quiet, calm down time before they can be expected to be cute and cuddly.

Yes, I understand how rescues would want to keep the chins to evaluate them and look out for any health issues. I'm obviously going to be very clear with whoever receives the chins that a strict quarantine is in order and to allow them time to settle in.

I'm not an organized rescue. But I like to help out when and if I can. I was told she needed the chins out ASAP so I said I could help. I'm not asking any money for these since they are not my animals.

This is one of the reasons I did not take the malo chin. I am not taking them in to care for them long term. I do not have the space or the time I feel I could devote to a chin with needs like that. I obviously understand that if one were to get sick while in my care it would be my responsibility to take them to the vet and help them get better.

So, not sure that this answered your questions or thoughts, but I don't really feel there's an issue with what I'm doing. I'm not going to bug them a bunch and they're in a quiet area so no one will be bothering them. They'll not get stressed out more than necessary. I just know that where they are now, and where they will be going is better than how they were.

It did! Thank you. :) There isn't an issue...I just don't want someone coming back to you later to complain about the chins. You did a wonderful thing taking them. And, you can't keep everyone.

Maybe you should have a contract made up so that you can't be held responsible. I worry about rescuers, even just people that do it every great once and a while. There's so many crazy people out there. Who even knows what type of new scams they will pull. (I sound like my grandmother when I say that...)

Thank you for your response... :) And, thank you for taking in little chins that need your help.

You know, I did think about the contract thing. Because obviously I don't want to be held liable for any health issues they may have as I didn't care for the originally.

As with all rescues, you just have to go into it not knowing what you're going to get. I'll be sure and make that clear :))

And I know, I wish I could keep them all! But as it is, I'm living at my parents and just don't have room. And the fact that I think my family and my boyfriend would think I lost my head. So yeah.. my 5 is what it has to stay at. Obviously if they don't get a home right away I'm fine with that as I know it does take time. I'm not about to put them on Craigslist. But I will continue to keep looking for a good home for them.

I'll send anyone I hear of looking for chins in WI your way!

I have so many rescue chins that I decided must live here with me. Over the years I have sort of developed the habit of keeping them for as long as possible! Maybe it's for selfish reasons, only my subconscious knows the real answer to that, I suppose.

You can tell everyone if they don't promptly go to new homes that you just can't find anyone to take them. That's my excuse with my husband when he asks. But, I think he's gotten to the point where he just knows not to ask much!

Alli I wish I could take Gus! I've always wanted a cagemate for Leonard but he is such a pissant to other chins! The two of them wouldn't get along I'm sure, dang it! Gus looks like a real sweetheart underneath his grump. Hammie is a cutie pie but then I'm partial to violets!
You're a sweet, wonderful, great person to take these boys Alli! I hope you find a home for Gus lickety split!

I promise on open forum to be Hammie's forever home and to love him and spoil him rotten. (just as I do my other chins) I also promise to let Hammie heal and quarintine him for the proper 30 days.

I hereby state that after I take Hammie, Allison is no longer responsible for any health issues Hammie may have.

Allison if you want me to sign more of a contract i will. but these things i promise you and more!
:)
