Well, my cage has ARRIVED, along with the deeper floor pans/trays. So that means as soon as my husband and I put it together (tomorrow) we can pick up the boys!!!! So, Friday is the big day and I can hardly wait!!
I won't have everything in the cage that I want, but I will have enough in there to make it nice for them.
I have a quickie question about temperature and cage placement. I have read a few conflicting, or confusing maybe, items about the temperature. I've read not to keep the Chins in a room where the temp goes over 75, and I've also read where you should add the temperature and humidity level together and they shouldn't go over 150.
My loft is about 74 degrees, maybe 76 mid-day. I really prefer to have them there than in the basement, which is about 70 degrees. The humidity level in the loft is minimal; we have central air running all the time. So there's no way it's even 100 if I added them together.
Am I safest putting them in the basement? I absolutely do NOT want them to be in any discomfort.
Any advice is appreciated!!!
Thanks,
Laurie

They should be fine at the temperature in the loft. It would help if you had a fan aimed at the floor to help blow the air around a bit though.

76 is a little too high for comfort to me. I have noticed my chins displaying signs of getting too hot in temps as high as 74. I personally do not let the temp in their room get over 70. If it were me I would keep them in the basement..

Humidity is a huge factor in heat. Even in the summer on a humid day here, with the chin house plugging away well under 70 it can feel terrible it there because of the humidity.

That temp range won't generally cause them to overheat, you can give it a try and if it doesn't work, move them!

What's the temp in the basement? If it's cooler there, and you could add a de-humidifier, I'd think it would be safer!
At 76, a 2-3 hour power failure, or a popped circiut breaker could end up fatal, especially if no one's home!

The basement is at least 8-10 degrees cooler. We do run a dehumidifier in the basement all spring and summer.
I think they will be ok in the loft for the fall and winter. it's quite cool up there then. Then I'll have to make a decision about how much I want to spend for electricity next summer :) :). Maybe I'lll move them into a spare bedroom and invest in a small room air conditioner for the spring and summer.
