Today, my chinchilla did this about twice, he was not eating before hand or even chewing on anything.
He seemed perfectly fine though otherwise and hasn't done it again since. He ran up to me, tried to jump out of his cage, ran all over me. I felt his throat and applied a little pressure and nothing seemed wrong, I rubbed his belly in case it was gas or something.
Any ideas? his teeth are fine too, no problems eating, he's actually sitting inside his bowl and chowing down as we speak.
Perhaps, he did pick something up and ate it too fast and choked on it and I didn't realize.
