Today, my chinchilla did this about twice, he was not eating before hand or even chewing on anything.

He seemed perfectly fine though otherwise and hasn't done it again since. He ran up to me, tried to jump out of his cage, ran all over me. I felt his throat and applied a little pressure and nothing seemed wrong, I rubbed his belly in case it was gas or something.

Any ideas? his teeth are fine too, no problems eating, he's actually sitting inside his bowl and chowing down as we speak.

Perhaps, he did pick something up and ate it too fast and choked on it and I didn't realize.

Sounds like a trip to the vet to see those teeth. You would have no idea there is an issue with the teeth by touching the animal.

I had an animal pawing and displaying what appeared to be a gag. Took her into the vets office and they found spurs. Teeth spurs can be as small as the top of a pin head. Molar teeth are so tiny that a spur facing the tongue can hurt like heck and cause sores. And spurs facing the cheek can do the same. Animal will continue to eat. I would guess if the teeth were left unchecked, an animal would face too much pain and stop eating. Or infections from the tongue being scraped to a raw sore or inside of the cheek.

Update the thread with vet remarks. It will help other forum readers.

My Sunni did have her spurs ground off. And they did not return to give her any further problems.

Thank you

Thank you, I will be taking him to the vet.
Though, roughly how much would that cost? I know it'll depend on the vet but, how much did it cost for yours? >o<

Sunni had her teeth done August 2009.

My bill reads $123 for 30 minutes of anesthesia mask/chamber
And $70 to trim and file molars.
Total: $193

I also took her cagemate with her. They put Sunni and Olivia together as soon as she was able to stand on her own. She needed hand feeding for a while afterwards with Critical Care.
Hope that helps.
