Well, I start out all nice and pleasant and try my best to get my points across and if that doesn't seem to work then I flip a switch and go for jugular. I may not have totally changed their idiotic ways but I have managed to get the managers to change a few basic things when it comes to chin care. My next step is to bring in the semi-automatic like you Susan.

Carol Anne is nasty? I don't think so! :p That's just funny to me.

It's really hard to be calm and get your point across once the adrenaline is pumping and there is something wrong especially when it comes to the chins, who are our babies. :)

We're actually going back to Houma on Friday so we can get our other chinnies.
Good! I've got a guest room and spare cages. :D

PM me if you think you'll stop by, I'll give you my address and number.

Today. She finely understood, "hey...I can go inside this hut. And it's cozy!"
She threw alot of the bedding out of it, but i guess now it's the way she wants it!

Glad to hear she is settling in.

When you get home though, you will probably want to keep her in a different room than your boys. I hear females can make bonded males start fighting.

It's always a good feeling to rescue a chin out of a bad situation. I know that when you pay for them the proper term is adoption, but it still feels like rescuing to me when they're coming from a harmful situation. When we adopted our Donna she had been living in a cage the size of the one in your pictures for over a year. There was absolutely no wood in the cage, and for "play time" her owner put her in a harness that was tethered to the cage bars. Some big moments for me were watching her learn to run in a wheel, bond with Lily, and bounce around in a chin friendly cage. It's been 6 months and you'd never know she'd been neglected... Moral of the story good luck with your new guy, with good care he'll come around sooner then you'd imagine.

Yeah, I can't wait to upgrade her to a bigger cage and give her a wheel to run on. ^_^

I am so happy for you and your new addition, she is a cutie! I also had to laugh as I was reading this because all of the Brittany/Brittiny/Brittneys that popped in to post :)).

I think I almost ran into the same situation today. I went out to buy Oxbow because I wanted better food for Beaker and the pet store I went into had a standard female in a cage with no chew toys and pretty much everything plastic except a chin-chiller. They lady proceeded to tell me she had come in with three sisters and a family had taken all her sisters and left her all alone behind. I felt so bad for her, not to mention when she took her out for me it looked like she was pulling her fur out and her feet were all dry and cracking, she also seemed really under weight. I think the only thing that prevented me from taking her home along with the oxbow was that I didn't have another cage for introducing her to Beaker :(. I think I need to avoid looking at the chinchillas in stores from now on.

In Hixon Tn there is this store called petcare warehouse...It is litterally a warehouse made into a pet store. A friend of mine told me to go down there because they were having a sale on cages. I got one of those super pet cages that are 2 1/2 feet tall for $60. I noticed that they had chins so I decided to visit. One was a standard that was very nervous. Fur chewing and wouldn't come out of the hut which was the only thing in her cage...it was a bird cage at that where the doors just slide up. If she had come out of her hut I'm sure she would have figured the door out and she would've been gone. They had her priced at $175 alone. The other was also a standard he was friendlier and was in a super pet cage. He had a hut and a few toys but still nothing to chew on. They had him priced at $275 alone! They said because he didn't chew his fur he was a higher quality. They also had a ferret that was nasty and stinky and just laid there and whined.
