she's been home a couple of hours. the breeder showed me the way to pick her up, and she was fine with me holding her for a minute. on the ride home, i put my hand in her carrier, and she kept pushing on my fingertips with her paws. then she put her chin down on two fingers and went to sleep.
awesome! my husband just spent the last 20 min laying on the floor feeding her pieces of hay through the wire.
pics once she's a little braver and well-rested!

Sounds like a great homecoming and she is settling down quite quickly with you. Can't wait to see pics.

Congratulations! I'm sure the 2 of you are very excited with your new baby, can't wait to see pics!

hold the base of his/her tail and lift from underneath (not behind, though) with your other hand. Jonesy is super-chill about being touched; she's been wiggly, but not scared. she was handled all the time at the breeders', but it's not usual for them to be cool with being petted or held right away when they come home. i'm really surprised at her.
it seems like most of them take time to get used to their people, so maybe just put your hand in the cage for a while and wait til he does some sniffing and finger-nibbling, then scratch his chin and behind his ears first. if you make him scared or mad, it'll take that much longer to get him to trust you.

also, i'm thinking that Jonesy might be more cool with people than most not just from being handled a lot. the breeder kept her a few extra weeks for us, and she and her cagemate had a spat. i wasn't there, but i'm guessing she didn't win that fight, since she only has about 1/4 of her left ear left.
the breeder offered to bring along a different baby girl in case i didn't want her with 1.25 ears instead of 2, but i said no way, i want my poor baby even more now.
so just a thought that maybe she thinks people are less risky than other chins?

Congrads, can't wait to see the pics. That's really sweet of you still taking her even if she is injured, she is VERY lucky to have a owner like you. But PLEASE POST PICS hehehe

here's Jonesy--she's a little irate, because she's been on a daytime schedule and just found out that's all about to change. Not the greatest photography--the really dark one is just to show off her 1/4 ear Van Gogh look.
i am so in love. the exciting surprise is that i think my husband is, too. he went into Daddy-mode and told me to stop pestering her for the night after he spent a lot of the day laying on the floor feeding her pieces of hay.

Kristy, she's like a super-chinchilla. i can't believe the way she was coming to the shelf by the door when i patted it. (until she got tired--THEN i heard a little bark!)

Alena, she is fine. (and if her fearlessness is indicative, i wouldn't be surprised if she started that fight!) i've always been one to fall for the underdog (literally, too), so when Kristy told me what happened, i thought, yep, there's God's way of telling me she's the one!

Congrats!!! She sounds like an adorable girl! I'm in the same boat as you-I will be picking my guys up tonight and I hope things go as smoothly for us as they did for you! What is her name?

Kristie
