so i just put ramona up from play time early cause she jumped up on to my bed and was running around she rubbed up against one of my pillows and a huge clump of hair fell off of her is this normal i feed her fresh pellets and hay from oxbow and fresh water every 2 days i talk to her and my friends on the computer often so is she stressed or just shedding? and how often do they shed cause now her coat is kinda uneven sorta the top is short and the sides are longer. thank in advance i love you so much C&H

she could be 'priming'. this is when a chin sheds it's coat to make way for new hair. your description of the top being shorter and the sides long makes me think it could be her priming.

another thing that came to my mind, were you holding her prior to noticing the clump of fur coming off? she may have fur slipped while you were holding her, and the hair didn't fall off right away, but clung on until she brushed up against the pillow. being as she is new to your household, i think it may have been a fur slip.

could you post a photo of her? that will help us determine if she's priming or if it was a fur slip. either way, it's nothing to be concerned about.

Here is the picture the red line is where the top stops and the old hair is longer.

the photo isn't very clear, so it is hard to tell if there is an area where fur slipped or if it is priming.

Godofgods is right though, you should change the cage bottom to not have a wire grid. you could lay down a fleece liner (either an 'official' sewn one or just folded fleece) or find some way to remove the bottom wire grid so she's just on the shavings (as long as removing the grid doesn't affect cage strength/integrity).
