So here is my question, as a tenant who has a private lot for tennants of the apartment building we rent from, can I call to have a car ticketed for parking in said lot? It is a small 10 car lot that is marked with a legal sign "private parking, all others will be towed, etc"

I have an issue where the bar up the street has its members parking our lot full and sometimes they park it so full you can not get in or out of it till someone moves.

One night we came home and a neighbor had called the cops and the NICE cop came and ticketed ALL cars that did not belong there, as there are only 7 tenants and we know who has what cars, and said any more parking issues to keep calling. He joked they could use the money.

Well, tonite, same issue, they were parked all over the place and even parked the wrong direction and all. Mean cop came and refused as I was not the property owner and he did not feel like going to court if the ticket was fought on just "my word" that the car did not belong there. Because obviously you cant tell from the registration....the jerk.....anywho, does it HAVE to be the owner, seeing as how the other cop told us to continue to call, or was this MEAN cop just being lazy?

Call the towing company that is posted on the signs. Have them towed.

Talk to the building owner about it and talk about getting permits you can stick on your window/hang on mirror/etc. Then post it that any car without a permit will be removed.

Seeing as I get an error every time I try to edit....

We have the same parking situation at the condo we rent...10 spaces for tenants and 3 spaces for guests (guests have to have a sign on their dash that says they are a guest of Unit --). My friend had his car towed because he parked in someones space. The housing association here had those orange parking violation stickers printed up for the complex..everyone was giving a handful to use.

Yea my landlord is too cheap for that, i would have to pay for them out of pocket. Which I can get cheap anyway, BUT, will that solve the issue that the owner has to call and not a tenant?

I am looking to see why one cop gladly would ticket them and then tonite I got a butt who didnt want to do his job.

I think it may be a legal issue for them to tow/ticket without proof that the car doesn't belong there. I'm actually surprised the first cop did it. We have stickers for ours, and we ran into an issue where another tenant parked in my assigned spot... we called the towing company but they wouldn't do anything since they did have a valid sticker and they have no way of knowing if we were being truthful or just trying to screw someone else over. But they will tow anyone who doesn't have a sticker if we call.

If you call a few towing companies, they will approach your landlord and possibly give him a cut, if he allows them to enforce their towing sign, which they will install! They will take the plate # of the cars that belong there, and possibly give the tenants stickers, so they know who belongs, patrol the area, and hook - 'em - up as they see fit!
You'll have someone to call, they'll make money, and if the "bar people" aren't drunk, they should stop! Towing and storage are usually around $125 to get your car back!

I went through this once. Here in Ohio, the landlord must have pay to have a posted private parking/tow sign put up. Only then can non-tenant cars be towed or ticketed since it is private property.

We had an issue here with people parking infront of our driveway. We had to call the cops quite a few times because of our neighbor being the one parking there. We got a few cops that would ticket the person and we got a few cops that wouldn't. My situation is a little different since I'm not in a complex or anything like that, but the parking here is scarse and it is a one way parking street (meaning that the houses across the street can't park on their side). So we have these apartment houses across the street where they park infront of our driveway or its the neighbor being a BUTT and parking infront of the driveway...

So basically it got to the point where my dad had to paint the yellow lines in front of the driveway so no matter what, the people had to be ticketed or towed (even if its our car aswell). It was very frustrating because the people who parked there insisted that they didn't see the driveway/garage! I'm sorry, but you can notice it plain as day. If they couldn't see it or even the NO PARKING sign on the garage door, then maybe they need to get their eyes checked or shouldn't be driving period.

My aunt aswell had the same issue, but she was in an apartment complex and rented the garage next door. Anyone who parked there was towed at owners expense.
