I am glad she found the source! Poor baby....that's no fun...I know tooth pain is hard to deal with. I understand your financial position. We just got our chins and have somehow spent 900 bucks on them so far (in 1 month!) and only 200 of that was medical. Look into care credit if you have to and somehow find a way. Try posting some unneeded items for sale on craigslist or ebay or even right here as a fund raiser for him...I would have to do that if it happened to my babies....certainly no one could fault you for trying, at least. Lots of love to Chilly!

I'd ask for injectible antibiotics if possible...tooth troubles will already discourage eating. Make sure you get critical care and life line, anyway. If you aren't home during the day....maybe it is fortunate your husband can be at the moment to help feed him. Let us know if we can help you with anything and keep us posted!

Check with your vet about a payment plan....to pay his bill over time. I set that up with my vet when my guinea pig was sick and needed lots of care and medication. I got paid every two weeks, and we made an arraingement that I would come in each paycheck and give him whatever I could.

He's HOME

Excellent Ideas all of them I will probably do a combination of a few things. GOOD NEWS>>>>>>>>>>>>>Chilly Bear is home and doing better than I had expected. Honestly he was as fraile as toilet paper with no roll. He could not even keep his head up. I really thought he was going to die b4 the Doctor could even lay eyes on him (at the offfice) The abscess will be a problem but we have to control the pain and infection first. I am even looking forward to syringe feeding him back to health. He's still not in the clear yet but just the small improvement he has made is incredible:chillpill:

Super! I am so happy for you....I have been worrying over my new chins for all that could happen. I like hearing recovery stories! Keep us posted. How much did the vet charge you so far, if you don't mind the question? Kisses and Scritches for Chilly!

Sorry for the cost of the vet....but I know having him get better will more than make up for it. When you seem him all happy again you will forget about it. Awesome picture by the way!

Good news!
& Good luck with the syringe feeding. It can be a hassle sometimes. Make sure he is getting enough (I think its about 70mL/cc prepared per day?), and also probiotics if you aren't giving him those already. Don't give the antibiotics and probiotics at the same time as they will cancel eachother out. 4 hours between the two should be sufficient.

He's still in very serious danger, Im trying to get him on a recovery schedule, thats what I believe needs to be done. Because I should have feed him sooner this evening but I was afraid to move him too much. Then I noticed he was getting to warm, I took him out feed him gave him a poo starter and some water, he's resting till I check him again before I nap. He's in and out, more out than in :( But thank you so much for your Love
:grouphug:

Try to tag team with your hubby if you can so you get some rest. Chilly has had a hard day, so it may be a while before he looks anything but miserable. You know he is tough because he hid that tooth pain well.

We are rooting for him. Lots of love and luck to get through the night and be a happy chin again soon!

Were you given any pain meds for him? I know of a chin who had a procedure similar to that recently, and they had him on Metacam for a full week. That may help him to perk up a bit and be able to eat better for you. You're in for some hand feeding, so I would think he's going to be pretty uncomfortable to mess with if he doesn't have some kind of pain relief.

That's interesting that the vet went from bloat to an abscessed tooth. I wonder what made him think it was bloat in the first place. Did he do any x-rays? Or was he just guessing? What made him decide to take a look at the teeth?

Chilly did not make it :(

This morning I woke up and immediately checked Chilly before I got dressed. He was warm so I continued to dress for the Vet visit this morning. The children woke up and wanted to see him. They were asking why he had to go back and when he was going to get better. After half-*** dressing the girls we went in to check him. He was limp. His body was still warm but he was definetly not with us anymore. Chilly has passed this morning and my hubby and I are very sad.:nolove: The girls are to young to fully grasp the death of their pet, and will probably be asking questions for the next 4 months. I still cant believe he died. The infection from the tooth was appearent, the blood was poisoned from the infection. I could not get him to poop after giving him critical care and reglan last night, and mid-night he still had no poo. My hubby took over last night and tried to feed him but at that point he would not eat at all, I think he tried more Reglan, however either way he was not going to pull through. Poor Chilly we will miss you little guy.:chin2:

I am very sad, too.
Infection is very scary. I hope that you and your family can cope with this sad sad news.
I feel like I will be even sweeter to my chins when I get home, since there was a chin who had to say good bye to his loved owner.
My heart is with Chilly and your family.
