Hi there, my name is April. I've been ghosting this forum for awhile.. back when I rescued my first chinchilla a couple of years ago. But what brought me to actually register here is my hedgehogs! When I was young, I fell in love with my friend's hedgie, I was forever playing with him and babysitting him when my friend would go to her dad's, etc. The poor thing got car sick so it was easier to walk me to me! I always knew I would have one when I grew older. Many years later and a few moves brought me to Virginia.
When I was finally ready.. I could not find one anywhere close to me! Several hours in either direction, yes. But I don't drive and my husband was working insane hours. It wasn't until I found a breeder last year by sheer luck that I decided to take the leap.
I have been a foster parent for abused and neglected animals since 2004. We still do some animal transport from time to time and I donate my time to a rescue doing their website and graphics for fundraisers. I am disabled which allows me the time to stay at home with our furry [and prickly!] kids. We have an amazing vet that is very supportive no matter the hour. ..I am sorry if that came off as defensive. Some people look at the number of animals and jump to the wrong conclusions!
The fur kids:
8 cats. [ 7 years old - 1 year old. ]
4 dogs. [2 siberian huskies 1 & 2 years old, 1 lab mix 4 years old, 1 jack russell/basset hound 10 years old]
6 chinchillas with ages ranging from 4 years - 4 months
4 hedgehogs that I absolutely adore
