new chin owner WHAT IS MELAMINE? cage help.

Hello, i new to forums and i been reading every page on here gathering new information.

I recently (3 days ago) got a 3 month Mosaic male chinchilla, who is in a temporary cage.

Im interested in building my own cage and wondering, what is melamine ?

When i googled melamine all i see is dishes ? Haha
So is it a shelf? Bookcase that was turned into a cage?
Is it wood? Im lost.

Thank you, so i want on walmart.com and they have melamine bookcases.
Can i JUST turn a bookcase into a chinchilla cage?
