When we were in MN at my grandma's funeral a few months ago my husband ran into a bird breeder friend of my mom I always talked about. She had a gorgeous macaw who needed and home and he put a deposit on him or her for me! We picked him up from the airport last Friday.
He knew I was so sad after losing my grandma and how I always had wanted a macaw. He was going to make it my birthday and Christmas present! I am just so happy that my family is finally complete. I had always wanted a macaw and I sit at the bird store and pet stores for hours playing with their macaws and dreaming of having one.
He/she (I will say he, we have not sexed it yet) was just weaned and is a harlequin mixed with a camelot, so he/she is a very hybrid macaw, but so gorgeous! It is called a Fiesta macaw, or sometimes a harlot! Ha. He looks like a harlequin to me with a little less orange, but you can see for yourself! I know this breeder well and she is just great with her birds, I would play with them all the time as a kid. She breeds only a few macaws a year and will not be breeding anymore, so I am very lucky to have one of her birds.
I am just SO surprised, my husband has always said no way, no more birds now. I can't believe he kept this a secret for 2 months! He said he was going to get one for me and this one seemed perfect. The baby is super sweet and he lies on his back and plays and is eating well on his own. She did not sex him, but I probably will when he settles in. He went to his well bird exam last week and is in perfect health. I am so happy I could cry. He is so friendly and playful and will lie on his back and wrestle all day. Anyway, without further ado, here is the new addition named Phoenix.
