Metal Steps

New chinchilla owner, as of tomorrow when the breeder drops my Pink White chinchilla, Jones, off.
Here's the question though: Are metal steps all right for my chinchilla, instead of ramps? They are fairly wide, so he can hop from each one; however, I'm worrying about him slipping.

They really do not need ramps or steps. Mine can make the leap from one level to another, but I have a shelf halfway up to help them a bit.
