I'm so glad you got the kit back!!
While you're at Home Depot or Lowes, you might be able to buy a big piece (or couple of pieces) of kiln dried pine or something (melamine might work too) and use that to split the cage. Put the male in one section, and the mom and kits in the other. Since you said you just bought this big cage, that might be the easiest solution. Or figure out something else you can put, probably horizontal would work best to make the two sections.
