On Christmas eve I had 2 female lemmings dropped off at my parents. It just worked out that there was a breeder in the same city as my parents! It was my Christmas present to myself and they were waiting for me when I arrived. They are quite the cute little critters. There's not a lot of information about them.

They look like a cross of a gopher and a dwarf hamster. Very small and curious. I have been bit a couple of times and they spend most of their day under the shavings.

Here are some pics:

They eat a combo of chin pellets, seeds, a few veggies and timothy hay.

They love their wheel and spend a lot of time at night running on it. They can't jump but can't go in a hamster cage as they will get out.

Just thought I would share since I am enjoying them so much.

Oh, very cute! I couldn't deal with such a short lifespan though.

They are very cute, how big is their tank? It would be fun to have them in a big tank with a deep litter base so they can burrow and have a good time.

It's a 20 gallon tank. They have about 4-5 inches of aspen that they tunnel through. It's cute when you hear the shavings moving around and then it's like bugs bunny in the cartoons with the shavings moving until a head pops up.

I do put carefresh in one corner under the shavings so they can make their sleeping area. They tend to pee in one spot under the shavings.

I've buried some small tubes in the shavings and they seem to enjoy that. I have a video of them on their wheel:

They are super tiny. I just picked up another wheel so no more sharing for them. This morning they were both running on their own wheels.
