I ran across these strawberry flavoured acidophilus tablets the other day, I was so happy!! I was having such a hard time giving Elmo them, he refuses to take it in anyway, I've tried soaking a wheaty, sprinkling it onto his pellets, everything!!!! he just doesn't want to have anything to do with it.
Anyway, I wanted to make sure they were ok for them before I use them.

The thing I'm worried about is the strawberry, and on the back of the bottle, it says it contains MILK!! I'm not sure if its ok for them.
I don't give it to them on a regular basis, just when their poos look funny.

Couldn't help when I was flipping thur the pics, here are some random pics of my boyees~~ :D

and Gumby doind chin-ups xD

Thank you~

Cute chinnies! I'm don't know that much about acidophilus, so I hope someone can help, sorry :(

I have a similar product, but I would like to know what everyone else uses. One of my chins loves the chewable. Should we be giving the powdered instead to avoid the other ingredients?

I remember reading to quarter the tablets...but I can't remember how often to give it to them. I do a quarter tablet once a week. My chin wouldn't touch the powder form of acidophilus.

I suppose the sugar is not good. My tablets came from the pharmacy and didn't list the ingredients or count. I just found out that they are not a very high count! crud. I will get better ones.

Anyone know of some really good ones/ where to get them? I prefer chewable, but less sugar would be better.

I didn't realize how much sugar these had in them. The ones pictured above at least have a good count, so 1/4 tab once a day until poops are normal and when stress might likely be a problem couldn't be too bad.

I could do the powder though, as I have to mix the chewables crushed into baby gas drops (they love that stuff!) for Bunny to eat it. I could do that with the powder for both of them.

I have another brand that has a lot less sugar in them then the ones you posted. The one I have has less than 1g. of sugar per tablet. I then break the tablets into fours and give them one a day. I only give a sick, or food switching, chinnie once a day. The healthy ones I give them half a tablet once a week.

where does it say about the sugar content? I can't see it =.=
So its ok to give them in moderation, right? Elmo is going thru a slightly mushy poo phase...I'll give him 1/4 of a tablet tonight to see how he goes.
So, with these chewables, the only thing to worry about is the sugar content, right? Cause I thought chinnies couldn't overdose on acidophilus.

I picked up a bottle of PB8 at whole foods. http://www.nutritionnow.com/PB8.htm It's the powdered stuff and the highest count of bacteria on the shelf. I think it was $14 for 60 pills. I sprinkle about 1/3 of a pill's powder into Stitch's food every 3 days. I think he likes it because he always goes to his food bowl to eat after I put it in. You can see his nose going a mile a minute when I pour it like he can smell it.

I looked at the chewables like the one's you've got and I didn't get them because they had milk product and citric acid. I wasn't sure about either of those effecting their systems either.

It's usually recommended to give a quarter tablet every now and again. I definitely wouldn't give a whole one.

I just bought the PB8 like in the link above but i got the kind with cellulose ("vegetarian") instead of gelatin. Pepper seemed to be "gagging" on the fibers (sticking her tongue in and out and seemed to turn her off to it)....should I get the kind with gelatin instead?

Oh yeah, nevermind. That would be for the outer capsule. I guess they would both have silica or psyllium in them.

i have similar ones but mine are lactose free, and as tunes said, i only give it to my boys once in a while AND i cut the wafer into quarters. Even my chin with malo will nibble on these. I give my guys lifeline more consistantly though.

I have the strawberry acidophillus by Mason. I cut the tablets in half, and my boys get one every three days or so. The amount of sugar in each quarter tablet is on;y about 0.25 g, so it's not very much at all. Suki doesn't like them, though. I think it just depends on the chinnie.

I used to give all my chins a piece of strawberry acidophilus tablets once a week as a treat. I believe the brand was Valley Naturals. It had a low bacteria count so it was a treat item and not something I would rely on in a case of digestive issues.

I now have another brand of acidophilus that I purchased from Raley's in the refrigerated section. The billion count is much higher and it is powdered inside capsules. When I need to use it, I just pop open the capsule and sprinkle it over the pellets or a moistened treat.
