Is He Obsessed Over His Cuddle Buddy?

I just gave my chin a new cuddle buddy and he won't leave it alone. He seems to be obsessed with it and he even protects it from me (he attacked my leg when he thought I was going after it).

Is this normal? I'm worried that he will wear himself out:hmm:

Ha. Not sure but that's kind of a funny mental image...

I would say if it causes him to be aggressive to you it might not be a good idea. What's his general behavior toward the cuddle buddy? Is he attacking it? Humping it? Snuggling?

Some chins get very attached to their cuddle buddies. I would give it some time and see if things improve. It may be that since it is something new, he is just being a little over zealous.

Well, I ended up just taking it away.

Cuddling seemed not an option...the cuddle buddy was so soaked by the time I took it away I almost felt sorry for it! (Ewwww).

The next day ChiChi was angry with me. When I approached the cage he turned his back on me. But by playtime that night he came around and he's back to normal.

I guess not all Chinchilla's can handle that kind of company LOL

I got one for Idgie a few years ago and she completely ignores it. I find that she sometimes sits on it while she is eating--because that is where it is in the cage. I ended up getting her a couple smaller fleece little pillows, but she just throws those out of her house or shoves them in the corner. Oh well.

What do you use as a cuddle buddy and where do you get them? I think my new chinchilla that is alone could use one

One of my chins is definitely obsessed with his as well. But sexually, I'd say. Hah and he's not protective of it, just humps it about 24/7. Rowdy little chin!

I've got one boy that ADORES his fleece apple cuddle buddy (I got it at petsmart). He drags it everywhere in his cage and sleeps with it. I got an extra one for laundry day. He's never been aggressive with it but I think you should replace the one you took out with a different cuddle buddy or just wash the one you took out of his cage.
