I am a new chin owner, and so far, mostly everything has gone well. The only problem is that my chin doesn't use his water bottle a lot, if at all... Does anyone have any suggestions?

He may not know how to use the water bottle. Is it the same type of bottle that he had at his previous home? Some chins who are used to ball and tip bottles have a hard time adjusting to the pressure valve type bottles and vice versa.

First, make sure the water bottle is working. If it is, is it in a convenient place for your chin to get at the tip? If both of those things are fine, you can try opening a raisin up and rubbing it on the nozzle of the bottle. Sometimes the sweet smell will encourage them to lick at the raisin flavoring and then they get the hang of it.

Also, chins do not generally consume huge amounts of water. Try marking the water bottle with a Sharpie marker to see if he really is drinking and if you're just not noticing it because it's not a huge amount.

Welcome to CnH!

I belive he (the chin) is used to the kind of water bottle he has now. I will certainly try to get him to start using the water bottle is he has not already. Thanks for the help!

When I got my chin last week she wasn't drinking anything either. As recommended by someone on this board, I rubbed the raisin on the tip of the water bottle and within 10 secs she started drinking. :)

Re: water

In my experience with my chins, I noticed that my 2 males didn't drink as much as my 1 female does. I'm always filling hers up.

Since you are a new chin owner that means that you are new to them to. Just be patient and give them time. Give it a week or few weeks and you might see some changes.

I recently bought a new female chin and after a few weeks she really started eating her pellets and hay and drinking tons of water and even started chewing on her new toys. He/she probably just needs some time to get used to everything including the smells and noises of everything.

WELCOME :)
Chins generally do not drink much and some more than others. As Tunes mentionned the best way to be sure to to mark the bottle.
