i cant hold my chinchilla

hi i got my chin 2 weeks ago and when i put my hand in his cage he jumps up and hed stay there for like five minutes or longer if i didnt put him on a ledge but when i take him out of his cage he runs up my arm and tries o jump off what should i do

He is acting like a normal chinchilla. Most don't enjoy being held. He sounds like he is enjoying you. Running and jumping off of you are normal actions.

yup chinchillas are not like other pets such as dogs or cats, where they crave your attention. If you do not have something that interests them, or that they want, they could careless. What I was told is during playtime if they jump on your and stop even though it is for a quick second, it means they like you....welcome to the world of chinchillas

I've had Gary for 6 months and he still doesn't like to be held. But he LOVES using my arms as a toy to jump around on. Sounds normal to me too!
