I just brought the girls home yesterday but I have known one of the girls for weeks now as she was at the shelter I work at

I got the cage all set up and it fits nicely in my sewing room right next to my desk well of course I was not paying attention to how close my fabric was to the chins cage ... when I went to check on the girls last night for bedtime one of the little buggers had managed to pull several pieces of my scrap fabric through the bars but I guess it got all bunched up and she was not able to pull it all the way through .. they did manage to steal one piece and get it into the cage ( I let them keep that piece figured they worked hard to steal it might as well let them have it lol )

I can see having the chins around is going to be very interesting

chinnie homecomings are awesome, aren't they :))

is this fabric in their cage fleece? if not, it isn't safe, and you should take it out.

They will eat anything that is close enough to drag through the bars, the little devils!! They will keep you on your toes and always be one step ahead of you. Constant vigilence is the key to owning chins, lol.

Sherry's right, if the fabric isn't fleece, then it isn't safe for them to have in the cage. The threads they chew on might be digested and can cause an impaction, which can be fatal.

If you need any help, let me know. I'm close to Tucson, AZ, but I do a lot of chinchilla rescue in the Phoenix area, as well. My next trip to the Phoenix area is September 1st. If the Piggie rescue people ever need help with chinchilla rescues, they can always count on me.

I hope you enjoy your girls...and that they aren't pregnant. :)

of course the fabric they stole would not be fleece ... going to take it out as soon as I post this LOL ... rotten little girls

the piggie rescue I work with does not get chins in very often I have been wit them for a year and this is only the second set of chins I have seen us take in but I will keep you in mind for the next ones LOL

Chins are by far the most evil little creatures...but they are so darn cute and adorable that we just love them to pieces! If they aren't trying to grab anything and everything to drag into their cage, they are coming up with some grand scheme on how to escape their cage! Yes, chins certainly do make life very interesting...and definitely rewarding!

I know Juliet in her past family escaped her cage often . that is how she lost Romeo her mate .. family said they got out and could not be found for 3 days when they finally found Romeo he was dead :( so family surrender Juliet instead of buying her a new friend. Here I make sure the cage is locked nightly and since they are in the sewing / foster animal room I can close the door at night ( just n case ) this way if they ever get out they are confined to one room lol

still working on building trust with them last night for playtime I was sewing and it looked like at one point Juliet was going to jump in my lap but changed her mind and took off running around with Channel instead .... I am hoping they will let me handle them more soon I am not forcing it just going at their pace.
