At a pet store I saw the chins there had lots of hay inside there wodden house/hut and I had a few questions:

Do you guys do this and should I be putting the hay inside aswell?

Does this help keep them warm during winter?

or should I just leave it because my chin sleeps fine inside without it?

Many thaanks :)

The chins may have pulled the hay in there themselves. Mine does everynight. I take it out she pulls it back in. I would not put hay in the hidey hut. It's not needed.

okaay thanks for the info I won't put any hay in but the ones at the pet store the hay was like 4cm deep quite alot of hay for them to have inside.

The store might have just been doing that to try and keep the mess under control.

Sounds like they were using the hay to help keep the hut clean. I wouldn't do it; they need hay available to eat... you could put a small fleece pillow in there if your chin likes to sleep there.

I stuff hay in their houses...not for them to sleep on though. Most of mine sleep in their hammock or on a shelf. I put the hay in their house to keep it off the floor...it works for some. Some just pull it out and throw it all over while they try to find the perfect piece. I figure at the very least it gives them something to do. You can put the hay wherever you want...the chins will move it to wherever they want. Regardless of what you do, just be sure to remove soiled hay and you'll do fine.

I stuff hay inside a big cardboard tube twice a week. The chins are fascinated by it. They play with it and eat more of the hay. Win-win!
