Hello! I have a 7 months chinchilla. For several weeks the nose and left hand hair falls out. It looks very bad. Please help me if you have had such problems. I'm from Romania. In my town veterinarians do not know to care chinchillas. I am attaching a picture. Thank you very much! :(

It looks like your chin has ringworm - a fungal infection. You can put Desitin (powdered medication for athletes foot) in with the dust bath. A couple of Tablespoons mixed in well. Give that daily. You will also need to thoroughly clean everything in the cage with bleach water solution to disinfect. Throw out any wood that has been in the cage as well as it is hard to get the spores out of the wood.

Thank you very much for the reply! I found powdered medication for athletes foot. I'll buy tomorrow morning. I can not disinfect anything wood? He stood freely around the room during this time. So perhaps wooden bed and wardrobes are also infected. :(

I agree that it looks like ringworm. You might also find Tinactin (another common anti-fungal medication) and blu-kote can be used as well. There are lots of threads on how to use it on the forum, so just use the search function :)

Also, from the pics it looks like the food you are feeding your chinchilla is really not great for chins (looks like it's full of treats), so you might also want to find a healthier food for your chin. Additionally, the wheel you have for your chin is not safe and can lead to broken legs requiring amputation. I would recommend reading the FAQs section in the main sections of this forum to learn some fantastic information about chinchilla care to give your chin the best, longest life possible :)

Thank you

Hello! I looked everywhere for antifungal powders but all mention "Avoid eye contact." Can I use that? I didn't found Desitin or Tinactin.
I found Virkon S disinfectant to disinfect the whole room with it. During the time he was sick, he stood free around the room.
I removed from his diet the old food. Now he just eats pellets and from time to time a raisin. I also removed the wheel from my room.
I love him very much. For several days I'm working on a new cage, higher with 3 levels.
Thank you very much for your advice. Here people does not know so much about chinchillas. I do not want anything bad happen to my Pi :( I hope he'll be well soon...

What you are looking for is athlete's foot powder, the kind you sprinkle in your shoes. I'm not sure what brands you have. It probably will say to avoid eye contact, but it should be fine. Mix about a tablespoon into a half a cup of dust or bath sand.
I'm glad to hear that you are taking advice and learning more. There's a lot of great info on this forum, and please don't hesitate to ask any questions that might come up.

Hello again! Today I bought powder. I put 2 tablespoons in the bath sand. I stood by him when he made his bath. Now I feel in my throat something bitter. I think he feels the same way because he feels the constant need to drink water. Me too. Bitterness does not disappear no matter how much water I drink. Maybe powder is not good? Thank you in advance
