Gary loves his board :)

I went to the store and bought a 1/2'' x 6'' x 4' long Aspen board today that I'm cutting up to make chewable platforms for Gary to jump up on today. I didn't have a chance to get them cut into smaller pieces today but I had the board leaning up against the wall next to Gary's cage. Everytime I looked at him, he was just staring at it like he wanted to maul it. I finally gave in and leaned it so a corner of the bored was sticking into his cage. He was so excited to get started on chewing it up. He loved it so much n chewed and chewed like he was hellbent on eating the whole board. It was the cutest thing to see such a small guy chewing on a huge board . Gary is the greatest <3

just want to ensure that Gary has other safe wood items in his cage to chew, and his interest in the board isn't because it's the only chewable thing in his cage now?

No, not at all. He has several wood chews. Some are fastened to the side of his cage, some are just loose chews that he can hold onto and some are hanging from the top of his cage and toilet paper rolls- with no adhesive of course . So he has lots to chew on, he just always loves new stuff.

very cute photo! one thing that really concerns me though is that you have a lot of plastic in his cage. i'd look into replacing the igloo with a wood house, and take out that plastic flying saucer - they break all too easily and don't stand up to the abuse a chin will give it. i know you are getting the board cut for shelves soon, that's good.

I agree with ChinnyMom's suggestion. My chin, Chloe was in a cage with a plastic base and shelves when I first got her. It seemed she wasn't going to be a plastic chewer for months, then she randomly started chewing the crap out of them and I replaced the shelves and made her a non-plastic cage shortly after. Do what you can.

And Chloe also gets obsessed with new chew toys, despite the 10+ chews that are always in her cage and the fact that her shelves and hay box are edible...chins are weird.
