Fur bitter Q

So our little Sable is a fur bitter and has been that way since we got her. She was marked to be culled for it but my son took her. She would be very pretty with a sleek coat but over the 6 or 7 years we have had her it only rarely ever gets full. I don't know what makes her chew it. She has a nice cage in a quite area. Plenty of food, water, wheel, toys, bath. I play with her as much as I can and vist with her everyday. All in all a pretty good life except its in a cage. We got her a cage mate and she did stop for about a month but went right back to her old habits.

Has anyone ever stopped/cured bitting?

Chewing is genetic. You can sometimes slow it down, and you may even be lucky enough to have periods where they have a full coat, but it almost always comes back. Stress or bad environment can trigger it, or the wind blowing might do it too. There's really no way to stop it once it starts. What starts out as genetic, becomes habitual.

Oh well. We are a few misfits here. Dog has crooked teeth. Cat missing pieces of the ear. Won't even get into my issues.

I had a chewer dropped off at my house two years ago. I tried everything. new toys, playtime, changing the cage around. nothing worked. finally I decided to leave him alone. we built a cage with a wire bottom so that I didnt have to open his cage to clean it. a feeder that i fill from the outside. I dont hold him and he doesnt have playtime anymore, his cage is in my office so there isnt much traffic. he has only chewed once in almost a year, we had to put new shelves in his cage. but after a week or so of us leaving hi, alone he stopped. I know it wont work with every chin, but it worked for him.
