Kiki's Chins, have you considered that you are basically speaking for the seller who has not once posted on this thread. You even put that she feels really badly. Why? Why didn't SHE post that. If you don't want to be grouped with someone, then you should not be speaking for them...

I am a little angry right now, because Jade was only 550 grams and is now 477 grams, when she was here she was approx 700 grams!!!

How on earth does a chin go from 700 grams to 477 in less than a year!? I'm starting to wonder if those two starving chins you (Kiki) are fattening up also came from "your friend".

It makes me deeply sad when a chin is neglected like these chins have been, when there are those of us who would have tried to keep our beloved chins alive doing everything we can, and this breeder does not even give the chins the basic things to live-like food.

Exactly, that is the reason why I end up nursing chins back to health when I see them in terrible condition. It breaks my heart.

I, personally, treat my chins like my children. They have the best room in the house, and the ONLY room in the house with an air conditioner....they get the best of everything, just like my daughter. They DEPEND on us for their survival. I could never work in a shelter or a Humane Society, I would end up with sooooooo many animals.

As far as speaking for someone else, I shouldn't have said anything at all.....I just said that she told me she has learned from this experience, THANK GOD. It was the new owner who said she apologized.

I just wanted to say that I feel very sorry for what happened, and I had not wanted to speak on this thread because this thread was posted to ask for questions about an injury and not to talk about me, if you have an especial problem with me, you should talk to me personally and posting words in public about me, you guys don't know me.

I have apologized with Jennifer and I refunded the amount for her vet bill, and I also offered her all my support to her, and tried to do as much as I could, I don't owe you guys any explanations, I don't know you at all, and I also didn't want to spend my time having to explain things to people that I don't know. I know I did wrong with this, at it is the very first time something like this happens to me, I dropped Jade and Pearl off on Thursday, and Jade was fine at the moment, I thought it was a toe injury, like when the chins sometimes lose the tip of their fingers and then it heals again, Jade and Pearl, spent a couple of days at my parents's house and Jennifer went to pick the chins up on tuesday of the following week, so I didn't get to see how her wound had progressed and I wasn't there either to tell Jennifer, you know, you better don't take her in her condition, I never thought that her foot was going to get like that, and it was my fault to have not put more attention to her injury than what I should,

As to her weight, I don't remember her being about 700 grams, I got the two girls in september last year, so about only 6 months, and I remember that I didn't have a scale for a while, as I had purchased some chins around july or august of last year only, so was starting to get all my equipment, plus, with Jade's personality, it was very difficult for me to take her out of the cage and weight her, that I never did weight her too often compared to other chins,

This works as an experience for me, and to of course put more attention to the details about every aspect to the sale of a chin and their condition and everything, I wanted the girls to go to a good home that would give them lots of attention and would focus to take care only of them, because here, the girls, were escaping out of their cages quite often, making messes in the house and destroying baseboards and everything, they would chew the bottom of a cage to escape, then switched them to another cage and they figured it out how to open it, plus, they would not only be escaping for a little bit, when it was time to go get them back into their cages, it was very difficult to put them back as they would be very hard to catch and would hide in difficult places.

Now I am trying to reduce my herd to focus in the other ones I have and do a better job, I am only 24, and have not much experience with chins compared to other breeders, because of course I haven't lived that long yet to see everything, and everyone makes mistakes in life, and nobody can know everything about chins at once, I am sure some of you guys have made mistakes in the past with some of your chins, don't tell me that you never have, in any situation, and it doesn't make sense to talk about something else when the person that started this thread was asking for help about the injury, not your opinion about me.

And also, to let you know, Smoky and Sonata, were not rescued from me, like someone just asked previously, they were rescued from another lady that had only them in her care, so you guys stop thinking that the chins came from me.

I am just thinking, why is it necessary to talk about someone that you don't know about, it serves no purpose to this thread if you guys are not going to help and spend your time talking about me. This is the only thing I am going to say, because I am not irresponsible and I do take care of my actions, I just thing it is wrong to talk about others behind their backs, and made bad comments about someone, so that's why I didn't want to comment here, and I wanted the most that Jennifer would get some extra advice on Jade, so please guys, "LEAVE ME ALONE", and please start helping Jennifer instead of spending your time on me, and focusing on other aspects of this thread, and I still cannot believe that Jennifer created this thread to make some questions and seek for advice and someone had to "investigate" to start blaming the breeder that sold the injured chin.

I AM NOT REPLYING TO ANY OTHER POSTS, AND IF YOU DO HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, PLEASE DO THEM DIRECTLY TO ME, I am not going to reply to this thread again, so if you write something here or a question for me, you won't get your answer in public,

thanks

No one is talking behind your back, you are part of this forum and have full access to every thread on here.

By the way, you seriously need to rethink the sentence in bold letters.

I couldn't disagree more. You want to come on the forum and sell your chins and then get mad when someone asks why your chins look like crap, they're not heallthy and why you would sell an injured chin? Give me a break.

Don't say we don't know you. I'll speak for myself only here. I've seen your behavior (and chins) in other arenas and have been appalled.

I don't care if you respond to my answer to YOUR post, but I'm posting this for general knowledge. This is a public forum...not a "post the happy in the thread and message me privately when there's a problem so we can keep it under wraps" forum.

This is not simply a mistake or poor judgment of a minor wound. As a responsible breeder it is your responsibility to ensure that any animal leaving your premises is in the best condition possible and fully healthy. I have never made a "mistake" like that. If I notice any type of foot injury the chin stays. If I am in any doubt of a chinchilla's full health, they stay and get monitored closely. This should NOT have happened at all. If you notice a "toe" injury you should have investigated further knowing she was going to a new home.

As a responsible breeder, I ensure my animals that leave are in good health and if anything is wrong or suspected wrong, the new owner gets full disclosure. If it's a first time chinchilla owner, they are not allowed to take any chinchilla from this house that is not 100% healthy. I have never, once, made a mistake close to this. With responsible breeding...mistakes are confined to your home or they are mistakes that are out of your control, properly called "accidents". This is not an accident or even a mistake, this was an irresponsible decision because you already had a date set for these chins to go to a new home and wanted them gone.

It is also YOUR responsibility to ensure that your animals are in chinchilla approved cages and to ensure that they cannot escape. Them getting out repeatedly is just more evidence of irresponsible breeding practices. If they were to have kits, how did you expect to keep the kits in the cage or were they going to be "free-roaming" babies? It does not speak well of the "safe" environment the animals came from if they were constantly escaping. Even if they were the only two escaping regularly...you STILL should have focused harder on keeping them IN their cages or getting a different safe cage.

THESE are the two chins SOLD by you. There is more than just an injury. I have had chins I've rescued look better than them. You may talk about me as causing trouble but you brought this on yourself.

I can only hope you will get out of breeding and rehome your chins. If they all look like these two than you should really be ashamed of yourself!

Tanya they look like sissy and tiny.... I would expect that from someone who doesnt know better, but a breeder.... shameful!

I understand being young and a breeder. I started breeding in High school and even years later I do not know nearly enough you never know enough. I call many people when I need help. But seriously those chinchillas look disgusting. I would be embarassed to have something leave my care like that. And several chinchillas on your website are clearly not the ideal breeders.

I just only wanted to say that I apologized for the situation and I never meant to do any bad to anybody, and it was my fault of not seeing any better and of course this works as an experience for me and I am taking full responsability for what I did, I didn't say that it was just a mistake, it was my fault for all of this of what happened and yes, of course I feel bad about what happened and ashamed of it, it was never my intention to let Jennifer spend a time like that with the chins, I love my chins, and by doing this, it is not my intention to do it again and since this happened to me, I am of course going to learn from my mistakes and seek advice to be a better breeder, and since breeding it is something that it is very difficult and has so many different situations, I am willing to keep learning and trying to do my best, because I love my chins, I don't treat them bad, and like I said, having so many chins it becomes so difficult in looking after all of them properly at the same time, that's why I decided to downsize my herd a bit, to focus in doing things better, I am not going to come out of breeding so just everyone feels happy, I am going to stay because I love the chins and because I am willing to do my best I can and do what it takes to do things better.

I am not excusing myself for my age or for my short experience with chins, it is still common sense not selling a chin with an injury, of course, but I really never thought of this would happen and never meant for anything to happen, I have offered all my help, and have tried to do the best I can to make my amends.

About them escaping, they had never done it before, until not so long ago, maybe a month or so, so never had problems with them, but once they escaped the first time I tried to find them a better cage, and they figured it out how to open it, and then tried to put something in it so they wouldn't escape, of course if they were to have kits the babies wouldn't have been ok, so that's why I was trying to get them something more suitable for the kind of chins they are, which are the ones that like to chew a lot and are very curious.

And like I said, this never happened to me before, and never had problems with selling other chins or with their health or anything, and had tried to do my best to let the customers know everything they could about the chin, and all the sudden this happened all at once and didn't know how to handle the situation, so I ended up doing things wrong, I just kept telling myself, how come I didn't notice, you know, like how come could I be so dumb or something, I was just blaming myself all day and I couldn't stop by just saying I was sorry to Jennifer and what could I do to help

I am sorry about all of this, I just don't want to argue anymore, and I feel sad about what I did, and I just wish the best for Jade to get better and offered Jennifer whatever she needs, whatever she wants to make things better.

Having made my way to the end of this saga, may I just add that MY 2 petstore chins that I got before I knew about gettting them from a breeder looked a lot better than those two!!!

Heck, the ones at Petsmart are fatter and fluffier and in better shape.

I'm so sorry that Jade and Lily and you, Proudmom, had to go through this

Hi

Yes, I know some of my chins are not the ideal breeders, because when I started I didn't know how to recognize the best to purchase for my herd, and now I am trying to rehome a couple of them, and maybe try to acquire some others in the future, it takes a while to pick a good breeding stock, and to do herd improvements, and to learn about them, you sort of have to live all the situations in order to learn and it is a continuous learning process when owning chinchillas, I realize that now for sure.

If they all look like these two than you should really be ashamed of yourself![/QUOTE]

No, they don't, I have a couple chins in my care which are about 15-20, and some others that are in my parents' care because they love chins as well, and both of us take care of the chins in different ways, they have more chins than I do, because they have a bigger house than me, and all of us enjoy owning chins.

I'm glad you aren't using your age as an excuse for this. I just turned 22 and I've had chinchillas since I was 12, almost 13. I have NEVER let a chinchilla get in that kind of condition and I've owned over 20 chinchillas at one time since I was 14. I never let a chinchilla go without a bath when needed and I've never left a wound without investigating it thoroughly. If I ever noticed even a tiny wound, the chinchilla receives a FULL BODY inspection...both visual and by touch. They have a lot of fur...common knowledge which is easy to hide wounds.

that's why I was trying to get them something more suitable for the kind of chins they are, which are the ones that like to chew a lot and are very curious.

This worries me. Chinchillas are ALL curious and chewers by nature. When out, they explore and chew things out of curiosity. They don't just sit and not care about the things around them. Prey animals have to become familiar with their surroundings to feel safe, hence the exploration. Chewing is because they are rodents and their teeth are always growing. To quote a very smart woman "chins chew and poo, that's what they do".

There is no "learn as you go" with chinchillas. That kind of mentality endangers the lives of the chinchillas in your care. You need to take HUGE steps back. Just by looking at the animals on your website listed as your "breeders" you do not have a good gauge of what a quality animal should look like. You need to have all your animals evaluated for quality, my assumption is that none of them are "worthy" of being in a breeding program. You should also NOT be working with recessives as they are already suffering on quality and difficult mutations to work with. By breeding them because it is a color that intrigues you without any idea of what goes into the mutation and it's breeding, you are only doing harm. You need to go back to just having ONE breeding pair and taking things slowly.

Being as you are a member of so many chinchilla forums, I'd expect better from you. Wounds are common knowledge and basic care with chinchillas. Apologizing only goes so far when you make a mistake of this magnitude AND the chinchillas look as they do in those pictures. Baths are a basic part of chinchilla care as well as pellets, hay and water. Those chinchillas do not look like they've received the proper amount of any of those essentials. If you need to "downsize" in order to provide that for your chinchillas, you need to rethink owning chinchillas in general. I own over 70 and none have EVER looked like that unless they came from a neglecting home. My breeding animals NEVER look greasy and only females with extremely large litters have ever appeared "thin".
