have a question that a lady asked me in tsc.... could you use ash from a pellet stove for them to bath in? all pellets are 100% natural. i didnt know but i was curious if it would work.

The dust that's used specifically for chinchillas is able to reach down all the way to their skin. The ashes you're speaking of will just stay on their fur and wouldn't get to their skin where they need it. The proper dust is very cheap and lasts a long time and it's important to make sure it's working properly or your chin won't be able to regulate it's body temperature properly.

I'd stay away from the ashes as well. Ever touched ashes? They stick to your hands and skin... and even once you brush them off, you still have the residue... nothing like that happens with chinchilla dust. I wouldn't, dust is inexpensive enough that I wouldn't try to replace it.
