Does bedding matter with mesh floors?

I realize I can't use cedar or spruce. Kodah doesn't come in contact with his bedding, so does it matter if I use newspaper? I switched over to it last week and it seems to work fine for us, I just need to clean it once a week (of course). Oh and half of his cage is covered in fleece so no worries about his bitty feet.

You can use newspaper or shredded paper...it just may be a little stinky but it won't hurt the chin since he won't come into contact with it. Definitely stay away from cedar for sure.

Newspaper won't hurt your chin, even if they come into contact with it. If it was me, though, I would use kiln dried pine. I think it would absorb the odor (as Susan mentioned above) a lot better than newspaper.

I always use carefresh natural bedding under the wire cage. It's not dusty or messy and it is great at keeping the odor out.

Agreed. Nowadays newspaper ink is soy-based so it is non-toxic and more environmentally-friendly. I wouldn't use glossy printed page like magazines or ads because they could be made from some other toxic solvent, though I don't know any specific ingredients off hand.
