Are there any brands of dust sold in pet stores that are acceptable for chins to use? I know blue cloud and blue sparkle are recommended but I don't like to keep purchasing a lot online because I've had my information stolen so I'm a little leery. I've traveled to about 5 pets stores so far and have only seen Kaytee and Scent-sations. I am willing to travel farther I'd just like to know if there are any out there before I go on a scavenger hunt for nothing.

I think I heard that Sunseed was made by the same people who make Blue Sparkle. But I"ve never used it and someone could have told me wrong .
I'm sure someone here will know if it's true or another chinny rumor.

Kaytee and Sunseed work okay for dust. I used Kaytee before I bought anything online, but it really doesn't work nearly as well as Blue Cloud.

Just stay away from the sand and scented ones.

The only thing is, buying in the store will be a lot more expensive in the long run. You get 2.5 pounds of the Kaytee for the same that you can get 5 or 6 pounds of Blue Cloud.

It really is cheaper buying most things online. Buying dust the shipping is high, about $10 since it's a flat rate box, but you can get other chin toys that are so much cheaper than in the pet stores.

Thanks, I saw the low prices for Blue Cloud, I may just give in eventually and order some. I already convinced myself into buying her two fleece tubes online, I just couldn't resist the cute patterns and I'm sure she'll love it. I will probably buy the Kaytee since the only other one they have is the scented one.

Kaytee dust isn't bad. I used to use it before switching to blue cloud. It is a coarser dust, so it doesn't do as well of a job as the blue cloud does.

You should consider ordering your blue cloud online. A flat rate box full (10 or 15 lbs) will last a good while with one chinchilla if you are only dusting her two or three times a week.

I have used Kaytee and it didn't do a very good job. I have since started using Blue Cloud and my boys look much better.

Blue cloud is just the best dust and not too expensive if you only have a few chins. I bet you could find a supplier here on CnH that would accept a money order, or maybe send a check.

Blue cloud is the best, blue sparkle can not be used on show chins because of the sparkles, but is fine for pets or breeders. Blue cloud is a little more expensive esp. for people with lots of chins. Myself, I get a 50lbs sack for $35-50 and it lasts over a year. Out here in the Northwest many of us pick it up at Ronda's during Field Day. Where do you other guys pick up a 50 lbs sack to save on shipping? PS FYI it is only about the size of a 18 lbs sack of cat food

Blue Sparkle has sparkly bits in it, I think it's silica? I could be wrong, as I don't use it..

So some people don't like the sparkle that it gives the chins, and this is why most breeders don't use it on their chins that they show. I've heard it also tends to get the sparkly pieces everywhere. They're small like the dust, but you can just see them everywhere after the chin dusts.

Many larger breeders do use Blue Sparkle on their chins that they aren't showing since it's cheaper. So it's a fine dust, I think some people just don't prefer it. And from some people I've read that it doesn't work quite as well, but I'm not sure if that's true or not.

I could add some of the Blue Cloud to your order and it would cost hardly anything to ship on top of your Snuggle Tunnels. It's $1.35 a lb of 5 lb for $6. Let me know if you're interested and I'll check to see what the difference would be with shipping.

Actually several breeders/ranchers use Blue Sparkle on show chins and have had good results. I know jags does, and we know his track record. ;)

I do prefer Blue Cloud over Blue Sparkle, but I use whichever I have on hand at the time.

You've already gotten the where to go, most of what is in the stores is useable though the scented stuff is weird.

I'll stir the pot and say you can use whatever keeps your chin clean and whatever you are happiest with. You can even use things like corn starch, but it's forbidden to use before a show. :))

I've decided to stick with the SweetPDZ for the show season and see how it does on the table.

If you are worried about using a credit or bank card for transactions online why not try one of those reloadable visa cards? You just put the amount of money on them that you want to spend and it works just like a bank or credit card without having that connection to your bank account.

Spoof will please post how well you think it did when show season is over.
I don't show any chins, but I'm very interested in the SweetPDZ and would love to get some opinions on it.

For those who can put up with the "sparkly stuff", I just re-connected with my supplier on Thursday.
I'll stuff a large Priority Box [10-11 lbs.] with Blue Sparkle for a Postal Money Order of $20 - includes shipping [$10.35]
P.M.O. gives incentive to get it out - cash it at the same time!!
P.M. me if interested!
