Peggy....We have posted alternative places to stay in the other thread about the Empress Southeast Meeting. There are several hotels/motels in the area.

If the ones planning to attend don't like the ones listed on the other thread, they can easily find more choices by doing a google search for places to stay in Helen, GA.

In response to the Cabin being "pricey", A quick check online will show that hotels in Helen for that weekend average around $100 per night (plus tax) or more. Comparing that to the cost of a night in the Cabin comes out to about the same.

For example: The lowest cost to stay at the Days Inn in Helen is $124 total per night. That is just for 1 room! Cost to stay at the Cabin and get a full bedroom and full use of all the Cabin's amenities is $140 per night total. PLUS you'll be staying at the place of the meeting along with the Shoots. Just imagine having all that time to socialize and chat with the Shoots and the current unit officers. If you really would like to be involved and have a very active part in this new unit, here's your chance.

I know this is a cost that may not appeal to everyone. Times are financially hard on all of us these days. However, a lot of research was put into this and our decision was made. If anyone has any further questions please PM me. I'll be glad to answer any questions.

Any particular reason why there are two threads going? Can one be closed down to avoid confusion? I had no idea that you had already posted hotels, but if this is the "new" thread, perhaps this would be the more appropriate one to post them in and I can shut the duplicate down.

As far as hotel cost, I guess I'm used to going to MCBA Nationals or the Wisconsin show where we split a room in half for $40.00. I can still hob nob for a lot less cost. :)

Hope it all goes well and you have a great turnout.

We hope you have a good turnout and a very informative meeting. I guess it all depends on how bad you want to learn whether you'd be willing to pay the price for it. A chance to learn from 2 people who have been in the business as long as Shoots have, if I were a new rancher or breeder would be worth it. Heck it would be worth it to me anyway.

Well, it's not always about how badly you want to learn. :) Sometimes the finances simply don't allow us to do the things we'd like.

I'd love to be there--I have so much I'd like to learn, and would very much enjoy the chance to meet other people from the forum, but then reality sets in. The funds for an expensive trip simply aren't there for many people.

I truly hope you all have a wonderful, informative time in GA. Then you can come back and tell us everything you learned! :D

Holy Crap, If I had to start again I wouldve spent wayyy more time and money learning, and frontloaded the education and skipped buying the elaborate multi-level cages and cool new recessive mutations. It costs a considerable amount less to get the education in first, in my opinion! Have fun guys!

I've already got one of the rooms for myself, my sister AND my mother. My dad wants a vacation from her so we get mom for the weekend. My sister and I are going to split the cost of the extra room for Friday night and let mom have it so we can get a little mini vacation in and then just move mom in with us on saturday when Tiffany arrives. I'm not missing this opportunity to learn from the Shoots for nothing!!! Hubby will have a kniption fit when he finds out about the extra expense, but its easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission

If anyone wants to order fleece supplies for the meeting - let me know by Wed. of next week so I can get everything done way ahead of time.

With that said, anyone else planning to come? I want to make a chocolate cake for everyone, but I need to know how many we may have so I'll make a large enough cake, or so I won't make too much.

To Everyone Interested... We are hoping for a good turnout at this meeting. If you are still thiking about it and can possibly work it out, please try to attend. There is no cost for this meeting except for your own travel expenses. This is a very important meeting that basically will be the beginning of our new unit. There is much to be discussed and important decisions to be made. The more voices we have there the better for the unit overall.

Having Ralph and Barbara Shoots is an added benefit for those attanding. They are also there to be strong and knowledgeable guides to help get this unit off the ground. We plan to have lots of fun and pick up some great knowledge from the Shoots.

Helen, Ga is a neat town and the cabin we have reserved for the meeting is very nice and located right in the downtown area. If you can take the time out, if you can make the trip, please come. I know you'll be glad you did! We can't wait to meet everyone.

Looks like I might be able to make this meeting after all!! I am now in the process of seeing if I can swing it. :D

Soryy if this is a dumb question? Who are the shoots? Gloria

Plus.. he and Barb are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. They are very patient and willing to help newbies when learning how to show and pick out good quality breeding chins. :D
