This little guy was being given away for free on craigslist. I picked him up today and will be taking him down to brekai722 when I go down to pick up the Arlington chins. His name is Andy, he was living in a school. The lady I got him from said he needed a "quieter home" I told her that chins did not make good class room pets. So his cage has plastic shelves in it that are covered is urine, his hidey house had nails and other metal pieces in it, he has some type of large log that appears to be for a lizard, a salt lick, his food smells like play-do and has treats in it, his bath house has dust caked pee in it and his water bottle has black stuff in the inside and is held to his cage with a pipe cleaner!! At least he had some Oxbow timothy hay!

So first things first, I tossed the food, salt lick, hidey house, lizard log (I have no idea what type of wood it is) and I moved him into my extra cage which is not as big as the one he has been it but it is clean. I gave him a nice clean water bottle, PANR food, apple sticks, a rosehip, and a mulberry chew toy. I can tell he has never seen an apple stick or rosehip. The only chew item it looks like he had was the salt lick. I mixed up some critcal care/lifeline and feed him, along with a dose of gas drops. Then I gave him a bath in blue cloud, they have been using the kaytee stuff and his fur doesn't feel very soft.

So his poops look small and dry, other than that he seems to be in good health (from what I can tell) he is very alert. He is a bear to get out of the cage, I have never been knacked so much in my life, I am sure it is because he is used to kids poking and grabbing him. Sad thing is they have another chin :( she said the other chin likes the kids, I didn't see him so I don't know what his living conditions are like.

Hehe - he looks like a happy camper in that last picture for sure.

I'm glad you were able to take him out of that situation. It definitely doesn't sound like a good one.

While he may not have had the best diet in the world, he at least looks fairly well taken care of. Heck, I have girls here that look worse than he does! Cudos to you though on getting him out of there so he can have a real chin life.

He's adorable. The good food and dust will work wonders for this chin in the next few days. He looks sort of thin. Give him so time to get used to things and he'll be easy to get out of that cage. Let him come to you, never chase him around unless you just have to get him out.

I'm glad he ended up with you...and we're going to need some AFTER pictures in a few weeks when he's chubbier and fluffy pretty. :D

I am going to give him a hair ring check tomorrow, I am sure he has never had one. I wanted to wait a day before I.... well you know ;) just thought he needed some settle down time. I have never done one since I only have females so I will be searching around on here for some info, any tips would be great!

Suzi...you could wait longer to check for fur rings. A week or two probably wouldn't hurt him unless he's obviously having an issue and you need to help him. They don't really like fur ring checks (or they REALLY like them) and the whole ordeal can be stressful.

Thanks for the advice, I am happy to wait! It is not really on my top ten things of stuff I would like to do tomorrow

Ummmm.... did you post what you meant to say? My chin doesn't like fur ring checks AT ALL.

Kudo's to you Suzi for taking this little guy in. He sure looks adorable in his dust bath box, LOL! You are doing a great job!

It makes me happy to hear that he got out of the classroom and into a loving home.:clap1:

Andy Pandy

wow Sonia, you are lucky to get this little guy!
Suzi- love at first sight, I had to laugh about your fur ring comments...it isn't fun for BOTH parties, believe you me! Max always gives me the stink eye as he "rearranges" himself afterward.

Awww what a cute little fuzzy face!! Great job taking him out and giving him a good loving home. Those kacks will turn to whisker kisses in no time!
