I would like to thank alli713 for posting "New Chin Owner Mistakes"!
I just got my cute little Fuyu (means winter in Japanese) 2 weeks ago for Christmas! Of course I didnt know she was mine untill yesterday (i was under the ruse that she was my uncles) so I started doing some research since we've never owned a chinchilla before.

Now I'm wishing my parents had told me A LOT sooner as I'm noticing we have a lot of novice mistakes going on, most of which is because the petsmart is misinforming.

1. The ball of Death D: (soo glad I looked this up, shes been in there 2ce!!!)

2. Plastic shelf (though she hasnt chewed on it yet and she has been here for 2 weeks, but regardless I am changing it out)

3. I was feeding her dried fruits DX I really had no idea, apparently neither does petsmart

and several other things, I think the bedding "Carefresh natural" and the hay "Kaytee timithy hay" or even the plastic dust bath house and bottle which I may wire to the cage (the house i mean) :/

She's not very big, Im going to by a scale for her and locate a exotic vet as soon as possible in case of emergancies. Thank you guys so much for all the links and posts!!! I really wish the pet stores would advertise a lot more of this as it's so important to know!

I'm a little worried about her since she seems so small compaired to some of these pictures of other chinchillas, but she's eating and drinking and is pretty active. She likes to crall all over my arms and shoulders whenever I put my hands in her cage (She's really mellow from what I've read about chinchillas lol)

I hope you guys can see these pictures ^^; buit she's about the length of an empty toilet paper roll not counting her head and tail, and I think she's probibly very young, not a baby but maybe thet preteen stage lol

Thank you guys again for posting so much information and hello!!! :D

Welcome! You sound like you've already learned quite a bit and are making the appropriate changes. Good for you! Unfortunately petstores do not offer the best advice or have the correct info for caring for chins. This forum offers great info from very knowledgeable members! I wasn't able to see your pics, and would love to meet your new little friend!

:hi2: Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't worry about her size. The pictures on the forum range from the best show animals to the wonderful little pet chins.
Best advice is a good pellet diet, hay and clean water. They really don't need anything beyond that. But I must admit I do enjoy giving out a snack from time to time.

Welcome in CnH, nice to see that some people really care about their animals
