    Depression hurt

If you want to save your relationship you need to both agree on a place and be together. He is living two lives and that doesn't allow him to live a life at all. I know all of this from personal experience with my husband, he became depressed and an alcoholic. He's now been clean for almost 1...

    Breeding again after a c-section

I have heard of chins breeding after c-sections without problem. Especially since it was not her first litter. I had a female who I had spayed during c-section because it turned out that her pelvis just could not facilitate a birth.

    Chin with 3 legs?

I'm assuming it's a hind leg? They get along really great. Pinning is rarely successful truly and you can't tell if they continuously have pain. He would need some lower shelves but will be able to get around just fine.

    Rose hips question

I use a supplement and put crushed in my supplement. To hand out treats, whole would definitely be easier!

    Eye problem :(

As Newt said burrito him and gentley hold him between your legs, with one hand place a thumb below the eye and a finger above and gently open the eye, try to drop the eye drop into the "pocket" that the lower lid makes, if at all possible do not drop it onto the eye itself as this can cause...

Chinchilla with large cut/injury. Long post sorry.

If the pipes have a shut off valve or something that could be the culprit, since chins hide their pain so well you very well might not have noticed any difference when it happened. I worked at a vet for many years, but now I work in the "people" medical field. I have a lot of respect for vets...

Chinchilla with large cut/injury. Long post sorry.

Is it possible he had an abscess and it ruptured? I've seen too many people doctors try to be pet doctors with poor outcomes. While it may not look that big to you, consider how big that would be if it was on a person, for example you said it's a couple inches long, but a chin is like 50x...

confused and frustrated new mom. Help!

If they have a good diet they do not and should not have mineral chews. Cuttle bones are not necessary either and don't really do anything for the teeth because they are too soft. It sounds like you've provided many chewing options so I would not worry too much about her teeth. You can find our...

How much to save for a first colony!

I have a page of "breeding gone wrong" on my site, it shows photos of what kind of things breeders see. Some may breed for years and not see anything go "wrong" others will seem to have all of the bad luck in their first year so it's always a good idea to be prepared!

2013 ECBC National Show - March 1-3, 2013 Denver, CO

Nope, I didn't show anything this year. I wasn't planning on being there on Friday to check in so put the few I had into breeding. :D

What should my friend do about her chinchilla problem?

Is it your chin or the friends? You said it's a friends... but then said you don't know how you would do that. ? Easiest option, get a better chin safer cage that's easier to clean.

    Vomit?

It's possible as well that they got too much in their mouth or maybe a pellet jabbed them wrong or something and they simply spit some back out. If it's larger it's probably pee, their mouths are not very big. :D

Cassie, I know that JoEllen got some as well, but she doesn't frequent the forums.

    Is this true?

Definitely an emergency deal, the freezer that is. I've heard of people doing it with the door open in emergency, but closed or cracked (as they said)... I don't know if I'd be comfortable with that. Old canned goods is a good idea too!

    Is this true?

Yup, or an icepack. Wrapping it in fleece makes it so they can't chew on it, and so they don't get too cold. If using an icepack make sure it's non-toxic just in case.

    Is this true?

I personally would avoid letting the chins get the hot. Fruit is not needed in them either. If I had to emergency cool a chin I'd use a marble slab or fleece covered bottle. The theory is that the cold cools them down, but really it only helps for a few minutes, and since it's cold the body...

    Is this true?

I would not put it in the freezer because the quick temp drop can cause more damage than good in many cases. I would not mist it unless it is dire circumstances, and even then I would not use luke warm water, I would use water that is room temp or slightly less, that would be emergency, no...

How much to save for a first colony!

I agree wholeheartedly with Ryan's post regarding breeders who put down or push certain other breeders. I personally have no animals to offer at this time, and don't plan on having much, but I'm glad to share my personal experiences with people looking for animals or make recommendations to...
