I found some vomit (or what I think is vomit) in my chinchilla's food bowl...It was a bunch of sticky, clumped up, partially chewed pellets with some weird vomit looking substance im the middle.

They both act normal, and their feces look normal also. I feed them Oxbow plain pellets (no mixes or anything) I have no idea what caused this...Is this normal?

This is only my first year of owning chinchillas...So I'm still getting the hang of it....

I really have no idea, just a suggestion really, but maybe they just had something stuck in their throat and had to get it out of there?

Are you sure he didn't urinate in the pellets or did the bowl get pushed under the waterbottle nozzle? Chins can't vomit, so it definitely is not that. Something else got the pellets wet and made them look clumped up and sticky. When pellets get wet they fall apart, could that be what you are looking at?

When I first got my newest chinchilla, I put a ceramic bowl with pellets in his cage, I saw the same swelled pellets. I questioned it at first, but I came to find out he was going pee in his bowl, so I got a new feeder for him that he can't pee in :)

I'm sure it's just peed on pellets, it scared me too first time I saw the mushy stuff.
Take a pellet and wet it and see if it looks like what you saw.

Okay, thanks! My first thought was that they probably swallowed too much at once, but the pee situation is probably more likely.

It's possible as well that they got too much in their mouth or maybe a pellet jabbed them wrong or something and they simply spit some back out. If it's larger it's probably pee, their mouths are not very big. :D
