Apparently my son had one in his first apartment in NYC, you have to have a place for the condensation to drain. In his apartment the hose to drain was set inside a tray and he just had to monitor the water level and dump it when it started to fill up.

Unfortunately I do not have any first hand experience at using one but we are looking into them as a backup.

Ours had a container inside that the condensation drained into, and once it was full the a/c would automatically shut off, so it wouldn't flood. It was a pain because it didn't hold much water, and I was emptying it several times a day. But I guess if you aren't using it every day and it was just for an emergency, it wouldn't be a big deal. If the one you buy doesn't hold much water, you'd have to be there to empty it because the room would heat back up pretty fast.
 
Yep, door was WIDE open the whole time. Short term emergency solution.

LOL... I was hoping that, but the longer I sat here, the longer I was thinking "well, maybe not". Sorry :thumbsup:
