All 5 of them are in the refrigerator in their travel carriers. Just my luck, the AC went out, and the apartment company refuses to fix it until Monday. :hair: I am beyond ticked off at the moment. I have a friend who's going to let me stay at his place until the AC gets fixed. However, he's out of town so it was 84 degrees when I got to his place. I turned his AC on and I'm going to give it an hour or so to cool down before I bring the chins there. So grumpy right now grrrrr.........................

In the refridgerator? I don't think there is any air inside a fridge????

Yep, door was WIDE open the whole time. Short term emergency solution.

I HATE living in this tiny college town. I have 3 sets of friends who are here for the summer. 2 are out of town for a conference, and the other is at a baseball game a few hours away.

Ugh, so I went back to check my friends place and I've had his AC on for 2 hours and it's now 89 in there. I know I turned it on correctly, what are the odds that both of our AC's are out?

Anyway we're holed up in the basement of the music building on campus. It's a cool 73ish so we'll be good for a bit. I have another friend who's going to let me use his place, but he's a couple hours away at a baseball game. So looks like we're just chilling until he gets home. Everyone's got water and hay in the carriers. They're grouchy but cool.

Brittany-if you need to you can bring them here - so far my air is good - hopefully won't go out if we have storms tonight but even if it does, the basement generally stays pretty cool. I am in West Chester which isn't terribly far from Oxford.

Thanks Juanita! I'll keep that in mind if this ever happens again, hopefully it won't. Got into my friends apartment around 10pm and turned the AC on. The girls and I all sat in the car for 1 1/2 until the apartment cooled down. Just got everyone settled. Temperature is currently 75 and cooling. Everyone is chilling on chillers and ice packs. Everyone's drinking and eating, active, alert, no pink ears. Tomorrow I'm going to run to petsmart for a temp cage for the rescues. They'll have to make due with their cat carrier tonight. Once things cool down more I'm going to let them out in the bathroom for a bit to stretch their legs. They've been in carriers since around 4pm.

I talked to the maintenance guy on the phone. Even though I explained about the chins they don't consider AC an emergency, and the apartment complex isn't willing to pay the fee for him to come out 'after hours.' He promised to be out first thing Monday morning. He said the old tenant had trouble with the AC when they lived in my unit. I've been there for about a year, hopefully after they fix it it'll last 11 months until I move out.

I had to run back home to grab some PJs and the temperature was 95 inside. Even without chins I don't know how anyone could live like that for long?

We just picked up our son in Columbus at OSU because the dorms don't have air conditioning and he hasn't been able to sleep or study for finals next week - unless you are used to it this area of the country is just too humid!!!

FYI - when I went to Home Depot the other day I noticed that they now make portable room air conditioners that you can roll from place to place. I don't know much about them but I was thinking of looking into purchasing one for the chins in case of an emergency just like what you are dealing with. They were a couple of hundred dollars but probably worth it for peace of mind. They are about the size of a decent air purifier.

Anyway - if you ever need help - just shoot me an e-mail or pm.

That royally sucks! I can't believe its that hot over there right now. We're having a freak storm over here...lots of rain!

Wow, a/c not an emergency? It's considered an emergency here. What if there was someone who couldn't get out of their apartment easily or didn't have anywhere to go? They could easily have heat stroke, especially with what our temperatures have been lately!

Home depot huh? I was at walmart and they only had window units, which isn't an option in my building. I'll have to look into that. You're right what's a few $$$ for something this important. I'll have to see how much they are. If it's not in the budget right now, it'll definitely be pretty high on my list of 'things to get.'

Everyone made it through the night comfortably. Accept for me, I guess a snuggy isn't enough insulation? Heading to Fairfield to see about a temp cage for the rescues.

Brittany - I saw the portable air conditioners at the Home Depot at Bridgewater Falls in Fairfield if that is where you are heading. They are in the front of the store. Sorry I can't help you with a temp cage - the inn is full over here right now.

You poor things! I hate heat. Probably why I live at 8200 ft in CO!

Glad it seems to be working out. You area such a great chin mommy!!!

Wow that is terrible, some people are so insensitive :( Where do u go to school? I am at Ohio University and I have a window unit for my room and central air in my apt so if it happens to you again you could bring them here if you r close by

Oh no! So sorry to hear, but I'm glad everyone's okay! I would've been SO mad! I just wanted to chime in that I have a portable AC that I use in conjunction with my Central Air. I used the portable by itself last year, which worked great, but I did run into an issue with humidity when the temps were over 100, probably because the insulation conditions of my apartment are far less than ideal. Anyway, it's an 11,000 BTU Delonghi and it cooled a 16x12 room all last summer and still works like new this year. I'm in a corner unit on the 2nd floor, so my apartment really gets assaulted by the sun during heat waves. Even with my insulation issues, it was well worth the investment and certainly would've been a lifesaver in your situation.

Hope everyone's staying cool today!

That's exactly where I was headed lol. When you live in Oxford you get used to the idea of traveling 45min - 1 hr to get anywhere important. The portable AC's were ranging in price from $250- $400. A little out of my budget this month, but I think it'd be an amazing investment. I'm thinking that when I own a house it'd be nice to cool down the chin room with out having to keep the entire house that cold. Does anyone know how these things would do with electricity voltage etc? I lived in a really old apartment last year, and my space heater was always blowing a fuse.

Just make sure you have a window to vent it through. They have a long hose that you have to be able to set up in a window. We had one before we moved to Indiana, in Florida. We used it to cool our florida room, which we turned into the kids playroom. We had it plugged in to a regular outlet, so that shouldn't be a problem for you.

Glad your girls didn't overheat!!
