That is what holds the cage to the base. You clip those down over the side, there's one on each side. It makes it easy to clean you just unsnap, lift off, and then knock the base into the garbage. We use those cages for the hedgies but he's using this spare until his cage gets here. They work ok for the chins but Sadie did chew one of the handles off so we took those off completely.
