I saw a couple people mentioning this on the other thread. I am always curious what people pay in rent and get for their money in deferent places. I will go first.

I am in Missouri
2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, LR, DR, kitchen
Screened in porch
2 car garage
finished basement
mud room
washer/dryer hookups, dishwasher
$550 month, with water, sewer, trash included
So far this is working out well, and it is an end unit with one neighbor under part of us and then to one side.

The downside: this is a much older place, and there are cracks and such, but I know that I wouldn't get all this space for the price in a newer build. It's also in an area that could flood, but so far it hasn't. I do think it has more character than other places I have lived. Some of the newer places I have lived in the past just seemed so bland and sterile, didn't ever really feel like a home. Does that make sense?
I think because it's older it's also the reason the landlord doesn't care if I have pets, as long as they are under 25 pounds.

I am in California Central Valley
State College in town
1 bedroom, 1 bath, dinning room, kitchen, living room, balcony, storage closet outside, hall closet, and linen closet.
laundry hookups,
1 car port
dishwasher, microwave, stove, and fridge
caged pets allowed
$725 a month

We also have access to the pool, rec room, and laundry room (for those with nothing to hook up to the laundry hook ups).

California is too freaking expensive.
 
I live at home right now, but I used to live in an apartment.

I lived in Superior WI
I had 2 bedroom, 1 bath, living room, large dining room, kitchen, and basement access with storage as well as 1 parking spot
This was for $425 a month

I then paid $25 a month for my dog. But I had chins without any extra cost.
 
Lancaster PA

$650/month.
4 bedroom, living room/dining room/kitchen, fenced in yard. Pets allowed.
2 bath,
washer/dryer (had stove and fridge but we replaced them cuz they broke within like a month of us moving in. Including the 'replacement' fridge they'd brought us)
Trash/recycling.


Downside: Oil AND electric heat, we have to pay both. (downstairs is electric because the radiators busted. Took us a year and taking the landlords to court to get any sort of heat down there). Landlord's a jerk and we have problems getting him to fix things, but they're quick with an eviction warning if we miss rent by even 2-3 days. We also pay water/sewer (which isn't that bad of a bill), small rooms.

where in Missouri if you don't mind me asking. My bro goes to Missouri State in Springfield, my parents live on Table Rock Lake, and I have family scattered in other parts of the state as well...I'd like to move back there, but don't know if it's in the cards for my hubby and I, though I do like to look at MO real estate whenever I'm out there.

Personally, I live in a horrible part of NJ and pay $775 for a 3 bedroom apartment literally across the street from "the projects" with gas/electric not included. And that is EXCELLENT compared to what I paid in Harlem for 2 years, which was $837 a month to have one bedroom in a 3 bedroom that I shared with 2 other girls (again, gas/electric not included). I am desperate to move even if we have to downsize because I hate going outside and always feel like our car is going to get stolen, but right now we are walking distance to the university my husband works at so it's convenient...and, although expensive, it's WAY cheaper than other nearby places for an apartment this size. Saving up for a down payment!
 
Johnson City TN (ETSU city) in a quiet neighborhood 2 miles from central shopping area.

End unit 2BR, 1BA, 2-floor, living room, kitchen with dining area
Balcony with sliding and screen door, front porch, central air.
Washer/dryer hookups & dishwasher, double sinks
Trash, water, 2 parking spots in front of door included in rent.
Pets allowed, no "aggressive" breeds for insurance reasons.

$450 a month.

Downside is it is an older building, lots of kids around. Carpets need to be replaced. Not terribly well insulated. Happy with the place for the price, but looking into something newer at some point. I pay LOW LOW end of the spectrum here. I'd expect to pay $650+ for a similar apartment that was newer.

$750/month (I have two roommates so we each pay $250)
Utilities (electricity, gas, trash, water) not included in rent
 
We went a house out in Buena Park, CA probably built in the 60's.
3 BR, 2 BA and detached garage
Block walls
Central A/C
Detached garage for 2 cars
Close to the fwys.
Above ground spa
No pets.
*She has 2 dogs that she rescued and has been here for 5 yrs We told her it's find as long as the dogs don't ruin the house.
Her cost is $1300.00 which is pretty cheap. We pay for the gardner, water and trash

We went an apartment for our son in Riverside, CA since he's going to college.
1 BR, 1 BA very small
Carport
Central A/C
Swimming pool
We pay $850.00 plus electricity and trash
 
I'm in in Jefferson City, MO. I forgot to add that all appliances are included in kitchen except microwave, and I pay gas/electric. My landlord seems ok with me painting too if I want, as long as I choose neutral colors, which I am fine with. I am thinking about painting the bathrooms this summer. Yeah, our carpets could be replaced too. I am really looking forward to using the screened in porch this summer! I imagine we will be here a year or two at least as we decided not to buy a house until we know for sure we want to stay in this area and I finish grad school.


If anyone wants to post some pics of their place too, I would love to see em! Once I get more settled and have things put away, I will take some myself. It takes me months to unpack, I can't ever figure out where I want things!

When I rented a apartment my first semester of college, my pockets stayed empty - the cheapest I could find was as follows:

In the city in Raleigh, NC

1 bedroom, 1 bath
free tv and internet and water
cinder block walls
window air units
propane heat, water and stove
no washer, no dryer
no carport (had to pay $200 for 6 months to park)
no pets allowed (only aquariums under 10 gallons, which had to be approved and pay $20 a month for)
525 sq foot

$625 a month - those apartments are now $725 a month

Ha I win (or loose I guess)

So I live in Santa Barbara CA in a one bedroom apt. with living room, bathroom full closet and kitchen. All utilities included except electric (runs us about $45 a month).


MY RENT IS $1250 A MONTH-so like I said I win/loose so far by the posts here :-(
 
Santa Barbara is a pretty upscale area, though. But I am sure the pay is much better. Median household there is $47,498, and the median household here is $30,835.

There are a lot more factors then just how many bedrooms/bathrooms and whatnot a place has. Taxes have to do with it too. We have no personal property tax, no state tax, but sales tax is 9.5%
 
The cheapest I've found around here (Edmonton, Alberta) for what I'm looking for is $850/month + power.

That gets me:
- 2 bedrooms
- 1.5 bathrooms (1 full, and a half bath in the master bedroom)
- En-suite laundry
- 5 or 6 appliances (stove, fridge, washer, dryer, microwave and dishwasher)
- All utilities except power, phone, internet, and cable.
- One energized parking stall

Some places want to charge me $250 per hedgehog as well.

The bathroom was pretty creepy though. It had a claw foot bathtub.

So as you can see, it's pretty large. It was in a 4-plex. I lived upstairs. I do not miss it though. When I moved in I had nice neighbors but within a couple months they all moved out and then creepy people moved in. And then my new downstairs neighbors smoked inside so my apartment reeked in the winter. blech
 
I rent a house with 3 other girls.

4 bedroom, 1 & 3/4 bath, huge backyard, 2 car garage, living room, laundry room w/ washer and dryer, kitchen and fireplaces
Total rent for house $2500/month
I have the second smallest room so I pay $550/month, the other girls pay according to the size of their rooms and what is attached.
Pets allowed (we have four dogs, 40 chinchillas, 2 birds, and 4 cats) no extra deposit
We also pay all the utilities
