I was reading the Chin "must-haves" and one of the items on the list is
"At least 2 types of safe, effective chews"
Other than food, obviously, I have some hanging wood toys in the cage, as well as a variety of sticks and blocks of wood. I'm thinking that is only 1 "type"... wood.
What else should I have in there for them to chew?
Thanks!
Laurie

a pumace stone is always a good idea. a lot of people sell apple branch peices..which are great but if you provide hanging toys and chew toys that is fine. they don't need a huge variety just a bunch of different peices

I just always try to have at least one or two hanging toys in my girl's cages. Then they each get a twig at night.

A lot of times they get sick of the hanging toys once the bark is off the wood so then I swap them between cages and they think they get a whole new toy :))
Or if you only have one cage, just take it out and keep it for later.

Otherwise mine all like the lava items like lava bites and dots. They like pumice stones if they're hanging, but if they're on the ground my girls don't really chew them up.

And really, wood shelves count as another chew item since over time they chew them down pretty well!

Mine love the Lava Ledges! It's a ledge and a chew toy all in one! Or Lava Bites for on the kabobs. Both are good.

Mine love all the lava items. I swear there is chinnie crack in them.

Agreed! Sesame really loves those lava bites. I find she likes to hold the pumice stone and lava bite items, instead of me hanging them up on the hanging toys.

Try a variety of wood cut-styles (ie: twigs, sticks, coins) of different sizes. Also, try and get a sampler pack of different types of wood (ie: apple, pecan, pear, grapevine, willow, etc) to see what your chin likes.

Perches and shelves with the bark left on count!! They double for leaping and chewing! It's funny to see my chin fall asleep on her apple wood perch... somehow she manages to balance a pile of poo on it. lol

Variety is the spice of life! Although... it def. makes for a spoiled chin after awhile ;)

Lava bites are a big hit here too and also loofah. They like those a lot...especially certain colors.

I wish I could find lava bites in bulk somewhere. They are so darn expensive.

Mine love lava bites, but they are way too expensive for something that gets destroyed in less than an hour. I give them lava bites every now and then, but they mostly get sticks, grape vine, and sticks with bark on them. Also, the shelves are fair game for them.

Yeah, the lava bites doe get destroyed rather quickly. I like the lava ledges and landings since they're so much bigger.

I get apple wood from a reputable source and use it on hanging toys and for loose sticks. I also use Lava Ledges and Lava Dots, those last a tiny bit longer than the Lava Wedges do.

All the interior stuff in my cage is made from poplar and kd pine, so they can chew on all the ledges and houses and stuff.

Take a look at the the chin items for sale. There is s sticky with all the sellers on here. A lot of them sell quality toys and chews and you can get plenty of ideas from them too. My guys love pumice, bagel bites, and lava items are always a favorite too! They also love to chew on hay cubes. I buy wood toys from different sellers on here. PPBN I highly recommended.
