Hello, thankyou for taking the time to read!
I was wondering if anybody had a diy way to block off my room so that my little Nigel can play safely without getting into things I dont want him to. I have tried this rather large and tall piece of cardboard but my curious little man just pushes out of the way. I think the reason he is able to do that is because (besides his mischievous behaviors) of the cardboard is not sturdy and has to lean on things. Please help he does not get as much playtime as I wish I could give him because he escapes and I have to catch him and I am worried about stressing him so I put him back in his cage.

I think the easiest would be to make or buy fencing or fence panels. That way you can either make a pen or use it to block off areas, or even use it to pen in say your dresser or something that you don't want them to get under. For example these panels are popular right now

Or this style

You can also use dog pens, they tend to be higher, but also tend to have wider bars so you would need to fix that with either hardware cloth or even covering it in fleece so they can't slip through it.

The cheapest though is to just tape cardboard together so it can stand up, that way you can make it as big or as small as you need.

Hello!

This really depends on how much space you have. My girl has a permanent play area that takes up a good portion of my living room (because that's where the TV is and my chin really likes the TV). What I did was buy 4 of these floor protectors to protect the carpet (my girl is known to mark any area she likes): KOLON Floor protector, 47 1/4x39 3/8" - IKEA

I then covered those in fleece and set the cage in the middle. Fenced the entire area with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002ARQT6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I used carabiners for a "door" I can open and close in the fence. Then filled the area with toys, hidey huts, tunnels, etc. It's easy to clean, I know everything in that area is safe, and changing the fleece and wiping the plastic panels underneath is very simple cleanup. Also, since the cage is right there if she's done with playtime or something spooks her, she just goes back into her cage.

I tried many other things over the years and this has by far been the best for both my chins and myself.
